ok just watched this... I can't fucking WAIT to hear the stories about how naive twats who relied on Siri ended up with a shipment of dick - shaped lighters when they wanted Bic...or missed their appointment with Eleanor and were instead directed to the elephant museum. At the mo, voice recognition can't even reliable pick out the name Daniel.
But goddamn the camera looks like it has actually been improved. Wider aperture, improved iso and better optics. 8mp too.
The faster processor.. well I've never waited for anything to happen that wasn't bottlenecked by the internet

I'm very surprised at how many of my friends are so thoroughly excited about the 4S. I've got maybe 10 people in my Facebook feed talking about how they can't wait to upgrade from their iPhone 4 when it appears to be more or less the same phone - Mildly improved camera and a few new stock features that were already available through apps.
Dual Core Chip - Great if there is a need for it - More intensive applications and such. I've not heard of any iPhone4 user complain about responsiveness.
8MP camera instead of 5 - Improvement, but worth the money? The friends I have seen blabbering about how awesome the upgrade will be use it primarily for Hipstamatic and instagram.
1080p recording - Boastful, but I have not seen one of my friends record a video on their phone.
It is quite a pathetic update seemingly. Anywhere I can find the cliff notes version of new features in iOS5. Is iOS5 coming to the iPhone4 as well? If I were an iPhone4 user and they decided to make it redundant after a year in the market I'd be royally pissed off.

Feature creep, is the ongoing expansion or addition of new features in a product, such as in computer software. Extra features go beyond the basic function of the product and so can result in over-complication rather than simple design. Viewed over a longer time period, extra or unnecessary features seem to creep into the system, beyond the initial goals.
The most common cause of feature creep is the desire to provide the consumer with a more useful or desirable product, in order to increase sales or distribution. However, once the product reaches the point at which it does everything that it is designed to do, the manufacturer is left with the choice of adding unneeded functions, sometimes at the cost of efficiency, or sticking with the old version, at the cost of a perceived lack of improvement.

the big processor is a joke. I still have a 3GS and EVERY apps runs perfectly... nothing is slow or chunky... Apps developpers are not using the full potential of the processor in the iPhone 3GS yet... so having a A5 chip is worthless. It's like having a Lamborghini but always driving in the speed limit 30Km/h streets.
- They say Siri needs the A5 for speech processing, there are games too that can use it, just sayin'ernexbcn
- They also use it for video stabilization, etc.ernexbcn
- Cool self reassurance post bro. Trying to justify why it's not worth buying, when you know it is.CygnusZero4
- Apparently the processor speed allows downloads to happen faster while your phone is multitasking, for examplemonospaced
- And the difference between the speed of the 3GS and the 4 is easy to see.monospaced
- Install iOS5 and then come back... The 3G used to feel smooth.animatedgif
- My 3GS runs like pure shitfyoucher1
- Yeah I guess the iOS5 will start to kill my 3GSbenfal99

I am fairly certain that Apple's stock will start to sink, considering the dissapointment of Apple's latest failure of a phone that does not even include the 4G network. Apple's competition now has a golden opportunity to pounce!

^ I still predict the 4G or 4GS model in the next few months, followed by the 5 next year.
- I predict a new iPhone release every year.CyBrainX
- haha, of course... just talking about the model-namingmonospaced

its good. its a phone with some features - you can still make calls on it. relax...I wouldn't get so worked up about it.

@CygnusZero4 it's not self reassurance "bro", I'm not even buying the thing because I own an iPhone 4. If I had a 3GS I would jump to it.
Common sense says you should skip one model. At this point, nothing the Android phones bring interest me and neither Windows Phone. Like I said earlier, iPhone 4 is still an amazing phone, 4S is even better, what's not to like?

My 3GS runs perfectly. Literally perfectly.
Not interested in this siri shit and a better camera is nice but not needed. I'm due an upgrade at christmas so i'll probably get one then but anyone who pays full whack for one of these is either rolling in it or a serious cunt.

I bet you any amount of money if they called it the "iphone 5" there would be no discussion. Everyone is bugging out about the name. Who the hell cares what it is called. I bought the original iPhone then 3gs and now 4s. I was driven more by what was inside not how it looked but personally I think the design of the 4 is nice. I agree with everyone above. Do you really think they need to redesign it every year. Have you read about the technology thats inside of it? C'mon people FFS.
- monospaced0
Hahahaha, holy shit. I can hear my boss in his office across the way, on the phone, saying that he has the iPhone 4G.
- set0
Redesigning for the point of redesigning would be stupid.
If it aint broke don't fix it. The iPhone 4 design is great for now.

The biggest story here that no one has commented on is the fact that this was the first presentation without steve jobs.
Everyone is hyped up for the release of iphone 5, they release a significant hardware upgrade but not the iphone 5, they release to a new carrier that is staking it's business life on having the iphone...
Everyone is talking about the product and not about if the company leadership can carry on. Jobs was as significant a part of all of the product unveilings as the products themselves.
Not one comment/complaint about the new guy....
I would say that makes this a spectacular release....
bravo apple computer.

bummed...my 3GS is on it's last leg and dying a slow death. i was holding out for the iPhone 5 before i upgraded. i can't imagine using this thing for another 6 months, but then again the thought of shelling out a few hundred bucks only to be left in the dust a few months later when the 5 comes out.
damn you apple!
- ...incomplete thought police. hey, it's 7am, and you get the idea.

Not need to upgrade, but people who haven't had an iPhone before may be interested in this "new" model.
- BozMan0
Wait wait wait... I just had a thought that could have saved apple from people freaking. Instead of changing all the internals they should have left it the same as the iphone 4 and simply just changed the exterior and called it iphone 5. I'm almost positive everyone would have been happier with that. Fuck better battery life and fuck dual core processing with 1 gig of ram! I want a redesign!

The only complaint I have ever heard about the iphone 4 was the antennae placement and dropped calls.
They fixed it, added a faster processor, upgraded the camera, and soon will give you a brand new OS....
- orrinward0
Hardly a brand new OS, but the antenna fix should be stressed as that is a big deal.
- ios5 is right around the corner...not a new os?manonthestreet
