Boomkat:
"Foster Manganyi's 'Ndzi Teke Riendzo' is Honest Jon's compelling follow up to the shocking 'Shangaan Electro' comp of a few months back. Recorded in 2008 and originally released on cassette, it's the work of a pastor from Giyani, Limpopo, South Africa, and shares much of the Shangaan sound's preference for, dry, skittering drum machines, melodic marimba percussion, whistles, and those unmistakably South African vocal harmonies. But there's one fundamental difference; the intentions behind the music.
While the Nozinja productions of Shangaan are purpose built for partying, Foster conveys spiritual, religious messages through his personal brand of Electro-Gospel. But, like most folk outside of SA, we don't have a clue what he's saying and can only run with what we know - this album sounds and feels amazing."

MRR-ADM are Southern Californian production team Michael Raymond Russell and Adam Douglas Manella. Built around and centered on a heavy, syncopated, driving drum kit, followed by percussive, insistent bass. It’s a constant flood of grimy minimalist-funk, punctuated by only a few moments of respite.

The use of African polyrhythms now seems commonplace on a funk or psych album; Arabic rhythmical structures, African pentatonic scales and Oriental modes do not. The Whitefield Brothers - and a multitude of guest ranging from vocalists Edan, Mr. Lif, Bajka, Percee P and MED to musicians from Antibalas, El Michels Affair, Quantic and the Dap-Kings - set these elements in a modern context.
- This was great. Thanks. Love the psychedelic CBS logo on the cover.CyBrainX

Matt Edwards (Maxxi/Radioslave) and Joel Martin (Zeus/Quiet Village) instigate some kinda ritualist homage to late '80s VHS horrors with 'American Dreamer' and the boogie collage 'MZ Medley'. Foregoing the shoddy (endearing) lo-fi values of so many artists toying with this era, 'American Dreamer' is the real deal psychedelic soundtrack trip, awash with hi-end FX treatments applied to cultish incidental music and all held together with a wading-through-molasses dream beat.

Umberto is the side project of Expo '70s bass/synth player, Matt Hill. It's a shlocky tribute to the tense scores of countless Italian horror films and cop movies from the likes of Fabio Frizzi and his Goblin ensemble, except maybe minus some of the proggier elements. This brings him up to date and in the next lane to the likes of Steve Moore's Zombi project, or like a lo-fi Gatekeeper, keeping the emphasis on slow and throbbing disco-horror basslines with arpeggiated synthlines to go-go.
- you read my mind!!! i was goint to request this . wow thanks respect!!bekannt

V/A - Open Strings: Early Virtuoso Recordings From The Middle East, And New Responses
Delving for a fourth time into EMI's Hayes Archive, Honest Jons trawl a treasure trove of old 78s from Egypt, Iran, Iraq and Turkey, all united by the theme of virtuoso string instrument performances. Originally recorded during the 1920s these revelatory selections have been all-but consigned to obscurity ever since.
- NICE! Thankschris_himself

Maybe like.. some instrumental music. Some Prog-rock. Or alt-poppy rock. Or folksy-bluesy rock. You know. Something with a band that plays instruments and possibly has a vocalist... I think I would like some music like that.

Another Honest Jons comp...
Focussing on the killer new dancehall vocal and dub's that the Unity Sounds label and sound system dropped to mad effect in the mid eighties. Genius through and through with spot-on basic channel mastering from the man himself Moritz von Oswald at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin.
