This Heat - s/t (1978)
This Heat - Deceit (1981)Best shit ever, probably posted by me here before...
"This Heat's sound was something like a confrontation of prog, free-jazz and contemporary electronic music (think early Stockhausen, not Kraftwerk). They often get lumped into the post-punk (or even just "punk") camp, for no better reason other than they started at the same time. They certainly sounded as if they were angry about something, and taking a glance at the lyric sheet for this album (and you'd better, as often the vocals seem more musical element than communicative force), they had fairly intense political/social statements to make-- though pinning down their position is often as hard as pinning down their sound. In any case, they were "progressive" in the literal sense of the word, and though they came up with the first wave of punk, they didn't really sound like anyone else of the time..."

Aphrodite's Child - 666 (1971)
Concept album about the book of Revelations composed by Vangelis Papathanassiou before he dropped his last name. Its also a double disc-er of early prog and usually considered a masterpiece. Pretty much this album is what made Vangelis famous outside of Greece.

"A sublimely beautiful 50-minute long drone homage to static and white noise both musical and in the natural world. Organs and pianos appear from grainy static fragments, field recordings blear almost to the point and often beyond of recognition, white noise washes - at time thunderously at others with the utmost serenity - over the listener."

Xela - The Sublime
"The soundtrack to excavating ancient crypts and cathedrals long buried and unseen for a thousand years. An enveloping, graceful, and gorgeously hauting pair of synthesizer masterpieces from one of the genre's finest."

William Basinski - The River
Two hour-long pieces recorded using tape loops and short wave radio static back in 1983 by the master of drone ambient:) Very soothing and immersive, in the same vein as Aphex Twin's "Selected Ambient Works"
- similar to disintegration loops? I'll take it anyway, cheers.Fax_Benson

Collection of six promo tracks from something called the Endless House Foundation. As they explain it,
"An obelisk of noise that rose rudely above the treetops of the Bialowieska Forest, the Endless House project shone for a mere six weeks in the spring of 1973. The outlandish brainchild of wealthy audiophile/maniac Jiri Kantor, its stated mission was "to become the cradle of a new European sonic community... a multimedia discotheque" that should "surprise and delight" artists and dancers alike. For all the wide-eyed optimism of its manifesto, however, the enterprise was never unknowing in its flirtation with disaster and self-destruction."
