Well fuck me, this is pretty bad.
I guess I thought my Nexus 5 was till getting relevant security updates... more fool me.
"Nexus phones starved of security fixes after just three years"
- Force obsolescence continues....money, money, money....great strategy, keep everyone upgrading endlesslyformed
- This shit makes me want to investigate an open source phone os. All you need is a browser for most things.section_014
- RIP Firefox OS!detritus
- Google are absolutely piss-poor at supporting their own devices in the long term. The N5 is a great phone, you should look into custom roms to extend its life.face_melter
- Yeah, I'm going to flatten it at some point and install whatever Cryogen's called these days. Probably after I've fixed the hella-damaged screen :)detritus

- Depends what you use it on - regular Android remains anemic and lacking in features, Samsung does great things with the battery life, Moto has neat gestures.face_melter
- best thing is 'android neko' hidden game - google it, implemented the popular neko atsumeyovkov
- I'm really enjoying it on my s7, alarm clock, quick menu etc all really good.BuddhaHat
- the alarms and timer are nice. took me a while to realize they had hidden the screen brightness control. I had to unhideHijoDMaite

Yo, the battery life on the Moto Z Play is pure mental.
I've been playing music (local, from SD card) almost non-stop since 8:30am (now 5pm) and the battery is at 91% - with WiFi and Bluetooth on, low brightness, and the occasional check on Twitter and SMS - nothing heavy I grant you but that's my normal work-day routine. With other phones it was close to the 70% mark at this time. Shit is bananas.
- what did you have before???
AN IPHONE??GeorgesII - I have the Galaxy S7, i'm charging it once a day in the evening, even if the battery is still at 60% or 45%, I'm charging anyway.Bennn
- This is day and night compared to when i was on iPhonesBennn
- My iPhone would shut down in cold temperatures. The galaxy S7 can live on -20C no problemoBennn
- what did you have before???

- I was quite taken with the quality of the S7 Edge - I wanted a larger phone, but not a jabba huge one, it packs a big screen into a small chassis.face_melter
- The much-vaunted Edges are fucking useless though.face_melter
- Have you held a Note 7? I agree about the edge, but on the N7 it was refined, not like the S7. I liked it, the N7 was the same size as my S5, but larger scrnformed
- Nah, picked up the Edge after the N7 debacle. But I have read that the edges were better implemented.face_melter

If i shoot a quick vid on my phone at full res (4k), what is the best way to send that video via sms or FB chat?
I want the receiver to view it in full res by simply clicking play instantly. Can 3rd party apps be embedded in to text app?
i hate getting vids from family and friends and only viewing the most blurry horrible video as if we are in 2005.
- Share it through Google Drive maybe? I think it has the ability to view/play media.face_melter
- what face said - DO NOT send 4K video as SMS. upload to drive and share a linkfadein11
- send from phone?
why not take the card and upload to your computer?pango - Im talking about sending a video while out and about.HijoDMaite

interesting to see what lg pull out their arse this year. i loved my g2 but ended up with an s6 edge+ for my last upgrade. if only they could use samsungs amoled screen, stick dual speakers, bezel-less display and a kick ass battery in it.
- have a look at the Pixel. just got it. superb.fadein11
- Pixel is the best Android phone ever made.Bennn
- I was suprised with the Pixel, too. Looks boring in pictures, but it really is a nice phone (I'd have one if they had production up! No 128gb or 5.5 ones)formed
- Benn is correct, from my experience at least. Superb.fadein11
- I jumped over to an S7 Edge and think it's great. Vanilla Android seems lacking in comparison - but, y'know, horses for courses.face_melter
- At the end of the day, they all do the same thing - it all boils down to personal preference. Jumpers for goalposts, isn't it?face_melter
- the pixel isnt a good looking phone imhotrooperbill

Knocked this crazy iPhone carnival on the head and went back to Android with the Z5 Compact.
One of the tidiest handsets I have owned - sits well in the hand, excellent finish with great build quality. Sony's version of Android is really good as well - almost stock with a few extras on top that are neither obnoxious or intrusive and prove to be useful such as audio enhancements and the option to adjust the screen colour temperature. A really, really, nice phone truth be told.

sick!!
but it quite fuckn big- "it looks like the future" lol
It looks about 4mm different than my phoneset - So your phone has no front-facing earpiece, hidden camera, and an almost body-wide screen? You're talking out your arse.face_melter
- I hear it's the same size as the iphone 7+. I was surprised the Note7 was only a tad taller than my S5, but larger screen. The bezelless design is deceptive.formed
- My phone basically looks the same minus a few mm here and there, yes.set
- its awesometrooperbill
- It's 5% better than mineset

- the quality of xiami has been..... oooookay...pango

This is quite handy (if, like me, you loathe shitty in app purchases and want to find apps that are paid-for by default)...

This is quite nice, Meet Robin:

I was inside the Sprint store yesterday and the LG rep was there. I started talking to her about LG phones and she showed me the LG v20 which comes out in about two weeks.
Damn. I was very impressed, the camera is totally insane! Also has sick image stabilization for video and an easily removable battery. It's also suppose to have the best audio of any phone.
Not water resistant like Note 7 and iPhone though.
The big question I have is the screen.
I love the screen on my Note 5 (super amoled)
this LG v20 has IPS LCD
whats the big difference on that?
I looked at my Instagram photos on my Note 5 and her V20 and the colors looked richer on mine also more contrast.

- that's why Samsung's screens look so much nicer than an iphone, tooformed

I'm in the market to buy a new phone to my daugther.
Huawei P9 Lite or Sony Xperia M5? What will you recommend?
- The Hawaii is more likely to get updates in the future (depending on the carrier, I suppose), has a fingerorint sensor, larger battery and better camera...face_melter
- software. Sony's laggy, and slow. Also Hawaii's UI is a bit more approachable given that it is styled after iOS. Sony has waterproofing which is good for kids.face_melter
- *Sony's isface_melter

I'm officially switching from Apple to Android.
How do you manage your mp3 on your computer? Whats the alternative to iTunes when you have an Android?

Any security experts here? Really I need some serious help...
I don't dare use this device, because It doesn't appear to be a safe device, but have to. And I have no idea what to do.
Malwarebytes and Avast mobile scan solutions aren't showing any issues but I want to know that this rom clean or not and that I will be able to install a stock android system on this device- go to XDA and look for the phone page - a very good chance there will be a page dedicated to it with custom roms and development.face_melter
- that's where I started :)sted
- and found nothing... :(sted
- It looks like your usual cheap-as-hell Chinese trap phone. The rom is probably ok, just customised. But why do you *have* to use it?face_melter
- bought it for travel, so I don't have to take with me my regular phone. I had no problems with it, but yesterday received a phishing sms and began to worry :(sted
- wouldn't that just mean the # is out there? Prepaid phones I"ve had recycle numbers so often you get strange calls/textsformed
- Yeah, having odd txt messages won't do anything unless you tap a link or open an attachment.face_melter
- Yeah I know, but the thing is that I have this number for 8 years and never received any of these messages. Got some help to uninstall and filter some crap.sted
- But as it was pointed out on xda these phones have built-in spyware, and closed kernel so it's almost impossible to tell what's going on, or revert it to stock.sted

All of a sudden, sometime in the past couple weeks, my Nexus 5x doesn't want to access my music or photos from before a couple weeks ago. I've connected to my computer and the mp3s are in the /Music directory on the device, but when I open Google Play Music it doesn't seem to access them. It definitely worked fine for months and suddenly stopped. I installed another music player and it also appears to not see the files.
Anyone know how to fix this? Googling hasn't helped.
- K I tried everything like deleting .nomedia file, restarting, Refresh option. Then I tried re-copying the mp3s onto the phone and that worked. #fuckingannoyingnb

Researchers from the Delft University of Technology have developed a self-replicating, mutating Android app which can create on-the-fly mesh networks in the event of an infrastructural disaster, or the enabling of internet kill switches by oppressive regimes. The app's source is available at GitHub, and the app itself requires no root privileges to propagate. It can self-compile while it mutates — for example, from a game to a calculator — in transit from one Android device to another, and compatibility with iOS and Windows phones is anticipated.
- Can also self learn and restrict access to all non Skynet intelligences.fadein11
- Pretty sure this is the birth of skynetmonospaced
