When they hacked up the body for guts, the comment was made to be careful about getting any blood on skin or in mouth or eyes. Logical to avoid infection.
However, they run around hacking and bludgeoning the zombies with close range weapons, which although not shown in the show, would yield a crap ton of cast off and splatter on yourself and everyone around.
Maybe they should have just stuck to the zombies having to bite you only.
Yes again, I know, suspension of disbelief, but really, don't introduce elements you can't support.

i love the sense of "summer camp" feeling you see when everything is peachy until the zombie is quietly eating the deer, the vibe goes from summer camp to death match, and then yet just after everything is peachy again.. nope no one should check the camp grounds for more zombies.. nope.. b/c everyone is cool.. also they should teach the kids to have better screams.. like if you see a zombie, yell ZOMBIE!!! not mommmmmy!!
cant wait till someone has to check that noise they heard in the basement all alone.. especially with that flashlight that runs out of power.. oooh cant wait indeed!!

I am afraid this show just won't live up to the AMC bar of shows like Breaking Bad and Mad Men like we all might have hoped. The source material may be good, but all in all, there is little groundbreaking in it (so far). I feel like I have seen it all before, and although I liked the first episode, it felt very familiar.
I'll still watch, mind you. Still better than most crap on network TV. =)

You all nit pick way too much. Stop being so anal and enjoy the damn show. It's almost as if you all need each character to explain to you on whats going through their head. I look at it this way. People that do things like ironing and what not. They probably do as a comfort to remind them of home, (keep busy and not think of the flesh eating zombies creeping around) but see that's me thinking into it too much or maybe not. None of you have ever been in that situation nor a situation like that. (obviously it would never happen). How about this take your life now flip it upside down strip everything you love about it and then lets talk about your habits. You say you'll do this that and the other thing. I bet half of you would crawl up into the fetal position and call for mommy. Stop your damn whining and enjoy the show or better yet change the channel and watch dancing with the stars or some stupid ass reality show. I happen to think its a good show however slow but its just starting. FFS give it time let some depth be created.

To everyone who hasn't read the comic: the first story arc really isn't all that amazing. It's mostly character development. But once the series settles in, some serious shit is going to go down. Also, the best characters haven't even been introduced yet.

Wow, this thread is full of complainers. And I agree that the writing can be sloppy at times. But a lot of the stuff has an OK explanation. It's not perfect. If you've read the books you know the story does get better, and that there are more interesting characters later.
ukit, that vibrator thing was realistic. *That's* what bothered you? And there's more interesting conversation to come about the men vs. women thing.
The main issue with translating these stories to TV is that things are always going to be left out or altered to fit the medium. It's great, because you get the special effects, but bad when it comes to some of the subtle scenes that involve character development. For example, I definitely got the impression that there was something emotional going on between Shane and Lori while Rick was in the hospital or even before then. I think it may have started with Shane first, and then he told Lori that her husband had died. She started sleeping with Shane: for comfort, because he also lost Rick, and because he protected her and her son.

lol. Well, sort of. If they thought it thru and came up with interesting ways to portray the monotony of a zombies life, it could be very cool. And they'd be able to cleverly explain, without actually explaining, what a zombie actually sees, or hears, or smells, or thinks, if it is indeed doing that. And it wouldn't have to be all staggering. Once it sets its sights on something it could be a lot of action. Just a thought.
