So, what happened? Did she write a new piece?

but, i am only doing...this and that. they always have excuses. also, that it won't hurt you. fuck that, it does. i live here! and so do they.
- talking to them, is like having a conservation with a wall.akrokdesign
- so true. Designers aren't usually good business people.Josev

I've come across designers who believe that this is the future of the profession but they've never been able to explain how this will make things better. One argument is that increased competition will allow the best work to rise to the top. Yeah, we all know that the best work is always chosen by the client.

I signed up for Arteis before. I never attempted to work on any of the projects but it was interesting to look at their process. They did, at the time, have some talented people working for them BUT they were people that had regular jobs. I think the good designers were mostly bored and could easily do some mindless work in their free time and make some money. I don't think they realize, or care about how this damages our profession.

That's just silly. With this guy's model you only get the first 3 of like 10 levels that are available - and that's only on the most basic level. The reason why you pay less is because you get less:
computer 101*
photoshop 101 *
laying stuff out on the page 101*
typography 101
color theory 101
composition 101
communication 101
(a few more 101s i can't think of)
design 101

I know Miguex, BUT this guy is very cynical about this and THAT pisses me off. When some douchebag thinks he's smart enough to bullshit people and recycle a business model as low and degrading as this one, I do have to blame him and in some weird way, hate.
Why? Because these type of idiots are the reason why I have to fight and spend an extra hour sometimes, explaining my freelance clients what these companies really do, how it is NOT a good resource for them, etc... I can't feel sympathy for this guy, sorry.
And I think I already explained how I feel about the """journalist""" and why.
- ukit0
So has anyone ever "crowdsourced" before? Cmon I won't tell anyone..
- If you can keep a secret..Miguex
- I'm trying to crowdsource my next home.Miguex
- yeah, when I was freelancing a few years ago I entered into a couple of competitions.monospaced
- I won one of them. Made $500 in a day. I guess the other two I didn't get paid though.monospaced

I have a feeling all it takes for a good trolling here is to scour the internet for a bit about crowdsourcing and suddenly a 100 response post inflates.

OSFA:
She was actually nice on the phone, I don't hold it against her, or Prova. Truth is Crowdsourcing is here, and some designers are all for it.
My concern is that Prova says his business model targets a need for companies looking for a solution "between Freelancer and Ad Agency" which I found insulting, it should be "between my own nephew and freelancer".

this Tanya, has no clue about this subject and figured posting something 'cool' about 'advertising' and design would be a good piece and get some sort of attention while fill up space and her quota for the month.
Talking to this idiot is a waste of time, she is not a real journalist and I won't waste my time trying to educate someone who first, doesn't give a shit and second, needs to work on HER own education, professionalism, etc.
These companies will continue to appear but will eventually be gone before anyone notices.
My question is where is David Prova??? He thought he would get away with a scripted response to jay's post, but boy! was he wrong!! Where is this cuntface? why doesn't he respond to comments and act as the CEO he claims to be?? Fucking clown!!!
- Miguex0
So I emailed Tanya (a very long email) trying to be as professional as possible, trying to make a point about why the argument below can't not be possible:
“Some designers charge as much as $5,000 to $10,000 for designs,” said David Prova, the company's 30-year-old founder and CEO. “Just $200 on a Prova contest can render hundreds of entries.”
I pointed her to the specific case of the presented logo with stolen clip art elements here:
http://www.specwatch.info/jan.1.…She gave me a call, thanking me for participating and that and excerpt from my long email will be featured at the end of the article tomorrow in the paper.
The excerpt:
"Yeah, but...but... but what if the presented entry is stolen?" (or something like that) which is not what I was trying to say at all, but oh well.

“To be creative, you don’t have to go to college or work for a large design firm. Creativity is often part of a person's personality, regardless of where they work,” he said. “The only limitation is having a computer and a creative mind.”
Ah right...thanks David, you've just indicated my whole professional training, and the tens of thousands I spent on a degree from a reputable design school was all a complete waste of time.
I guess by this logic, the only requirement for being an architect is grid paper, a pile of rocks and a love of tall buildings.

- *cough*
This would be a REALLY bad time to point out I only have a HS diploma, wouldn't it?Continuity - This is actually true. The issue is that some are more creative than others.cannonball1978
- reminds me of that horrible infomercial with the steve martin wannabe asking if we "sketch or doodle? then you may have what it takes...
lvl_13 - whst it takes to become an artist" bullshit hahaha. where is that damn infomercial?!lvl_13
- hahaha!ukit

^ instead, let's put together a contest of our own to write the best article explaining why this type of practice is bad for all involved. The winner will get the article published in the "all-new UT"
- Continuity0
From the writer of the article (I am loathe to call her a journalist):
Dear online community members,
If you are a graphic designer who has strong feelings about Prova's concept, I'd like to hear from you and possibly include your comments in a follow-up story. Please use your real name and e-mail me at . Thanks!

Like I said, this idiot and his awesome website will fade away in a year or two max.... then, some new 'smart' clown will show up and try to do the same....
