in all seriousness - drop everything you're thinking about doing, KINDLY leave your girlfriend, sell all your belongings and join the peace corps for a 2 year stint.
I have a friend who did JUST THIS and it completely transformed his life and today he succesfuly runs his own two-person design shop and couldn't be happier! Think about it, it will be HARD work, but you get to contribute for people WAY worse off than you all day (gleening satisfaction from all the wonderful things you have done) and you dont have to worry about money/shelter, because they provide it all.
Give it a shot man - what else do you have to lose?
- i dono about leaving his girl - she seems to be good people.bigtrickagain
- peace corps is actually VERY selective...mrghost
- like mrghost said. they are VERY selective. it's not just as easy as throwing in your name. especially being a designer.lvl_13

i have made enough mistakes in my life to whittle my network of friends and family down to a landscape of burnt bridges. I never thought that a late night post in desperation to a forum that i used to make trouble with when i was wasted and typing with jameson pumping thru my veins would be such a savior.
I can not thank QBN enough. quack aside ;) you guys have given me some really inspiring words of encouragement. even some that came of as discouraging at first in my over sensitive desperation have now been able to be viewed with a bit of hindsight and i appreciate the harshness of the "could be worse" reply.
If you know anyone that ever comes to you in a time of need and says they are depressed/suicidal/at wits end.... just remember that some very simple kind words can be all it takes to bring that person off the ledge.

I think if you're considering suicide - a drastic shift in goals, location, purpose, people and lifestyle may be what's in order... Just a thought man - there's no ONE RIGHT solution :-D
glad to hear you're feeling a bit better today! Dogs and sunshine have a way of turning around shitty situations...

Don't be such a drama queen.
I kid. What Amicus, Fax_Benson and many others said / followed up with.
Let me show you how ridiculous life is using Rocky 6's words:
"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now if you know what you're worth then go out and get what you're worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain't you! You're better than that! I'm always gonna love you no matter what. No matter what happens. You're my son and you're my blood. You're the best thing in my life. But until you start believing in yourself, ya ain't gonna have a life. Don't forget to visit your mother. "So there you have it. Visit your mother, son.

you have to pick yourself up and keep going. Everyone has rough patches, some more so than others...
Leaving is not an option, neither is suicide. Are you really going to "give up"?
Perhaps this is the time you are meant to have for yourself, stepping away involuntarily or however you want to look at it.
Sounds cliche, but keep your head up.

Dude it could be worse. At least you're still young and healthy. There are so many positive things you can do... and I like ideal's idea... Try focusing on helping people that are in a worse situation, think of others instead of you and your current issues, perhaps this will help you as a person, give you a different perspective and allow you to come back and start fresh again when you are ready.
Chin up man, it can only get better!! Good luck and keep us posted ;)

OP, it could be worse. Read this.

Dude, I'm sure everything seems like shite at the moment, but when you are down in the gutter all you can do is look up, get up and move on. Life's challenging moments tend to be the ones that help us grow, change and embrace some of the potential that we all have to improve.
Chin up, son.

the colloquial term for your situation here might be... you've made your bed, now lay in it
- why kick a man when he's down? there's no point in it even if you think you're right.bigtrickagain
- fuck yourself and stop helping him feel sorry for himself. there are avoidable circumstancesquack
- no one is helping him feel sorry for himself - he asked for help in getting his ego back, more or less.bigtrickagain
- also, why are you always an indiscriminate dick?bigtrickagain

thanks amicus. this is a moment when something as simple as a simple to the point paragraph from a stranger on the internet is all i need to get me thru the night.
ive always known that i wasnt the best(or anywhere near) designer/developer/editor/photog... but without the outlet at all. without projects to work on and ideas to push forward i have found almost no reason to live.
my girlfriend is the best part of my life right now and im broke and hopeless so i feel like i am the worst part of hers. thinking of leaving someone(her) just to make their life better is the only positive thing i can even think to do at this moment.

it sounds like you're a freelancer in whatever it is that you do. so, the charges against you won't really affect your work, as you don't have an employer requiring that you disclose any felonies, yes?
so, your net loss in this case seems to be:
1 macintosh
your pridethe mac is just a computer, man. it can be replaced with a little time. and your pride is probably harder to fix, but this thread is already full of excellent advice on how to do it (:
all your skills, all your family, all your health, are intact. keep your chin up and you'll be back at 100% in short order. good luck!
- your right this thread is full of great advice and i highly appreciate it. my... pride im working on.applepirate
