"Indiana law does not require rest breaks or meal periods for non-minors. This may be poor management, or a safety risk, but it is not, generally speaking, illegal."
"I'm a little shocked after reading the laws regarding breaks. Theoretically speaking, you could work 24/7 with no break and no expectation of a day off and this is LEGAL???? Not only poor management, but poor legislation in my opinion. Too bad Indiana doesn't care about the health and safety of its working citizens."
Any states where this isn't legal? I'm sick of being treated like a fucking slave by the government.

But you're white...
- lukus_W0
Why is this the government's fault?
Surely it would be the fault of your employer?
- epic_rim0
Dude, California law is FUCKED UP and UNFAIR.
for instance:
Q.Can I have additional rest breaks if I am a smoker?
A.No, under California law rest period time is based on the total hours worked daily, and only one ten-minute rest period need be authorized for every four hours of work or major fraction thereof

If you can read this, you're not working.

i think OSHA supercedes the states' legislation unless you're a state employee. And they generally have pretty powerful unions that do allright for themselves, i highly doubt anyone's working without a 15 minute coffee break every 2 hours.

Employers act under guidelines set out by the government though. They'll get away with what they can within the law. I think it's this country, not just the state. People are treated like fucking shit here (speaking from outside experience).

^ What gave it away for you? For me, it was the realization that there is something seriously fucked up about only getting two weeks off a year.
- +1,000,000
I use 6-7 minimum visiting family once a year, then have none left when I feel I need a break. It's exhausting, really.5tim - left when I feel I need a break. It's exhausting, really.5tim
- I use a week easily in sick days and doctor's appointments, and the like. At the end of the year, 1 week aint shitdMullins

where to fuck do y'all work, factories and farms?
- d_rek0
I have found throughout my 11 years in the labor force that generally speaking, the people who complain about breaks are the ones not working hard enough to begin with. Or the ones who need a smoke break after every task no matter how menial or significant it was. Or... the list goes on.
Some people, on the other hand, like to work and know when they've 'earned' a break.

It's not the breaks I'm worried about, I work roughly 9-6 with an hour for lunch. In fact, it's not really the employer either, it's the North American work ethic. Working more than your weekly 40 hours is normal and expected, not just in this industry but in general. It's just wrong and makes people less productive and miserable, work, pay bills, work, pay bills.
- Mr_Greedo0
"Working more than your weekly 40 hours is normal and expected"
but not explicitly required, right? It's not spelled out anywhere, is it?
So if you do all your work and you meet your deadlines, go home at 6. Who's gonna stop you?

Going the extra mile is the American Way™
I mean that too, we historically busted our asses to get what we have. Unfortunately, now it is the norm, and we ain't making shit anymore except slick laptops and bullshit intangible webware.

The best part of that quote, version3:
"That is fantastic that you are doing that."

Well if you don't like it you could always move to Mexico. I hear they pay well, work minimal hours and generally relax and enjoy life to the fullest down there.

My resolution of moaning like fuck about everything is really paying off this year.
