I used to drive 2 person electric scooter around. It was fun but knowing how far you can drive before having to recharge IS a MAJOR pain in the ass. If i had to do it over again i would have gone gas. The original range was like 20+ miles and now after a few years of medium-heavy use the battery has dropped to half it's range.
Yea, my $1.5k scooter isn't exactly top of the luxury line of electric cars but still it gave me a glimpse of the future.

"Driving the Model S feels like driving an iPhone."
- yep, the windshield brakes on the 4th month, and on the second year the car starts going so slow you have to buy the new modelyovkov

After the above video surfaced of a man driving his Tesla Model S into and out of a flooded area, Elon Musk confirmed via twitter:"We *def* don't recommended this, but Model S floats well enough to turn it into a boat for short periods of time. Thrust via wheel rotation."

We test drove a Model X last Sunday. They're pretty sweet. 40k to replace a battery though.

It does not matter if you produce CO2 with your car or somewhere else in a power plant. Unless your energy is produced without fossil energy, which is not possible by today's standards.
Besides that the Model S uses prehistoric suspension and has an overall low build quality compared to other cars in this price range. Automatic lane keeping and switching, distance control etc. is something Audi, BMW and Mercedes has done for years. They have also kept up with infotainment, just look at Audis new cockpit.
A Tesla is just a fast Prius without the range of an hybrid. It's a lifestyle luxury accessory for self styled ecologists. A huge lie.
- I was going to say they are so boringly designed for something disruptive. But fuck it...
<<< THISMrT - urgh, your prehistoric thinking hurts my eyes. A small shift towards ecology is better than none?ArchitectofFate
- what about their solarcity and storing that energy to power their cars?hotroddy
- 99% of the electricity production in Norway is covered by hydropower plants

- Norway, nice. How about the rest of the world. People, I like this car but buying a 100k car won't save the world.mekk
- they have a cheap car coming out.hotroddy

- It's faster than anything else out there, looks great. What else do you what for a $100k toy? It's a superb creation, period.formed
- ^ All of this. But it's no 'green' car.mekk
- Even coal power plants are more efficient than the most efficient petrol cars. Also the lack of oil changes and servicing helps a lot too.slappy

Hey man
I have actually owned one for 2-3 years now. Best car I have ever had by far. Air suspension that is height adjustable by GPS location does not seem very prehistoric to me.
Also, the whole "where does the energy come from" argument is just so lame. Electric cars fix the important part of the energy pipeline. Compared to a normal car, an electric car has the option to use clean energy where (and when) available. I my country (Norway) we get a large percentage of the energy from hydro electric generators.

I support everything that helps our planet. And I think Tesla is on the right path to a better, greener future. I just don’t think a lot of poeple who buy a Tesla drive it because of ecological reasons. They just like new, fancy technology. And this is okay (really no offense to anyone here). I have an iPhone because of that. But I still prefer an old ride, its pure engine noise, its soul, its lack of electronics... and protect the environment by only driving it very rarely and otherwise taking public transport or a bike.
Because I think you protect the environment most by not buying new stuff at all.- Engine noise = wasted energydetritus
- Yeah. A smile is wasted energy too. Leather seats are wasted energy too.
Power steering... you know I could go on forever.Longcopylover

I have one and it's great. Fast, clean, nice to drive. Cheap to run (especially with congestion charge exemption in London).
It works on the 'status' level, and people think you are less of a cunt than that guy with the M3 or AMG.
The future (and love cars - I've had a Porsche Cayman S and an M3).
- I would like one, lovely styling. Bit pricey for me but a significant improvement on the turbo diesel 'greenline' SUV I have now.monoboy
- Hey! What's wrong with an M3??!formed
- E36 M3s are great. I want one.Longcopylover

Five years ago I hated on the Model S in this thread and now I am driving a fully electric car myself that is being charged mostly at home with solar panels. Things have changed a lot and I like where it's going.
- We're very close to the point where everyone notices ICE cars look and feel like rotary phones and will want to ditch them.raf
