I'll restate the point for him in case:
Shouldn't 'editors' of this board demonstrate the virtues of a healthy critical discourse, rather than devolve into the most basically obtuse of arguments ('who are you to say/where is your work to prove')?
If one disagrees in regard to any criticism properly articulated, then shouldn't one reply in kind?

guys think about what Eric Ku would think of this whole thread, his career and motivation might be ruined.
- On the contrary.Corvo2
- Solid criticism/arguments is better than getting a patronizing pat on the back.Corvo2
- no I don't mean the criticism, I mean look at how stupid everyone seems, arguing and being bitter and pissedPupsipu
- why would he want to work with people like that? he might get scared and become a street artist living on the streetPupsipu
- I'm sure he'll be able to distinguish between what makes sense or not.Corvo2
- i doubt it, he can't even see past the street art bullshitPupsipu
- He's probably jerking off to this thread actually...dMullins

By the law of attraction if you constantly generate cohesive feeling of something in this case argument you will attract it. Ok this sounded radical, but that is answer to all the argument.
Constructive proactive observations and statements would banish chaos. Its all in the way of saying things. And don't forget you ain't children any more.- english is best used with sense and punctuationPupsipu

Speaking of art schools today - why do people still look upon those as "thinking" hubs? They're mostly technical schools mostly orientated to "product" and technologies. It's not the quadrivium any more. They output specialists, not "artists" (whatever that means).
- Tyler0
I'm not sure what response 'francoisfido' is referring to, but i will say this...
I often feel like the comment section of QBN has devolved into mudslinging and nastiness. I understand critiquing and criticism– i went to art school too. But all of this non-constructive dissing (usually behind the veil of a handle and no site to be critiqued in return) isn't really doing any good in my opinion.
If the argument is that everyone here is critiquing one's work in order to help that person get better, then I'd like to see some real positive feedback. I don't think many of the negative comments here are constructive or are designed to contribute something positive... it's more like a pile on. And yeah, it does feel like a lot of bitterness being thrown around for whatever reason.
I personally think this guy's work is strong. I've met him, i've seen him present it, and i stand by it. I don't expect everyone to agree, but it saddens me that (to 'Pupsipu's point) that Eric will log on here and see a mostly negative thread. Not very encouraging.
I thought QBN was meant to be a "community" ?
- cannonball19780
Ok, if this guy is aiming to have the "cleverest" work in his portfolio then kudos to him. To me it just seems like a play on concepts. Nothing added (unless you're someone who wants to buy clever things to feel clever).
*pats Ku on the head* good for you!
- Corvo20
I don't think this is a negative thread, nor that a community must stand for a bunch of like-minded individuals. That would be a group. And groups are always short-lived or uninteresting.
This doesn't mean that there are not some unfair remarks in this thread, but that is what makes it vibrant.
- Rand0
I wondered how long it would take for someone to use the word hater... about 3 seconds
- Rand0
that went well
- MrDinky0
Someone please explain why the work is good. I must be missing a point as I am not a creative.
- junetic0
I think the reason for the debate is that the 'cleverness' of his work is neither commercially viable nor critically or intellectually engaging. I love that he can follow through with a concept and communicate the clarity of the core idea. However, him being a student, his ideas could use more development, research and critical evaluation before jumping into execution.
- just my 2cents ;)junetic
- try that with less creative office speakPupsipu
- better ideas & more research. validation and processjunetic
- try convincing a client that a chair made of letters will sell. You'd need a whole lot of research, process and evaluation to back it up.junetic
- validation. What's the story? So what, a chair made of letters? What work has preceded this? How did this idea come about?junetic
- who cares?Pupsipu
- the chair won't go on sale with a little idea and art history book with it, it will sell or not sell despite any creative thinkingPupsipu
- just need to do a few test cases with customers and not overthink it, won't win a neuroscience prize anywayPupsipu
- Rand0
I haven't actually looked at this yet, but my general impression is that cleverness is overprized by graphic designers in general, and that it doesn't take much of it to impress them
