I'm pretty sure it started as a cas of a guy who found a way to "get away with" doing what others weren't, and now he's just the guy who fills that slot. That doesn't make him good though. It makes him sellable.

Why hate on the guy, has an amazing job, probably gets laid quite often with good looking models, takes good pics
Bro is rolling it in, macdonalds special

>probably gets laid quite often
Mate, this sort of argument only impress unsatisfied youngins and the odd unhappy married.

he doesnt do anything special. its just a case of what guy got away with being infamous (or famous if you will) for taking racey photos of people. ive done countless shoots like this with everything from cars to girls. i also know a few photographers that take better set up photos. I dont and have never been impressed with what he does. its all shock value. but again, in america we love idolizing people for who they are and not what they do.

jackson pollock and picasso produced shit as well, they're just famous because they did it. someone had to.
same thing with TR i think. he's culturally significant. whether it's in a good way or a bad way is up to the viewer but i think that's where his importance lies.
- I say he is famous in a good way.capn_ron
- i like his work, personascarabin
- i think i mostly just like how he gets away with being so sleazyscarabin
- me too. it's no less art to me than R. Mutt putting a urinal on a wall.capn_ron
- i think you mean Duchamplvl_13
- I know. But he signed it R. Mutt, so I'm playing into his alter ego.capn_ron

he does more than the sensational shots. consistently shoots for vogue, purple, richardson, elle, &c. but you're probably too busy worrying why he's famous instead of looking at his work.

i remember reading some article about how he gets his assistants to explain to the models that handjobs are part of the deal..
and the model was like "handjobs? who the fuck wants handjobs?"

I love how this thread pops up about once a year.
At this point, I'm comfortable with this fame - even accepting of it.
He's like a "bad boy" athlete - very talented and capable, but culturally known more for his antics than his performance.

i enjoy all of his work.
and what's wrong with handjobs? this is still qbn, isn't it?

Terry is not the problem.
His signature style has become the benchmark for all fashion photogtaphers and sadly they can't do anything else, thats the problem. Personally, I don't like his work, but thats subjective.
