this is the type of stuff that I watch on the history channel to help put me to sleep. something about doom and gloom that just makes me want to nap. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

the sheep WILL sleep.

So, um If I'm bi=polar and have more down days than up days, when the polarity switch happens, does that mean I'll have more up days?

so like the sun will REALLY be aligned with the galaxy on the horizon in 2012....what that means if anything who gives a shit its still true and real. But if the moon effects the tides and women's periods then who the fuck is anyone to say this sort of cosmic alignment doesn't effect shit on fucking earth? seriously think about this shit...and the mayans KNEW their was a fucking galaxy! thats amazing
- janne760
- Dude, seriously, you are really starting to get on my fucking nerves.TheBlueOne
- i apologize. even i don't think this is funny..janne76
- TheBlueOne0
Please explain what you mean by the sun being aligned with the galaxy. I don't think it means what you think it means.
- TheBlueOne0
And please explain by what you mean by "The Mayans knew their was a galaxy!"

The Galactic Alignment is the alignment of the December solstice sun with the Galactic equator. This alignment occurs as a result of the precession of the equinoxes. Precession is caused by the earth wobbling very slowly on its axis and shifts the position of the equinoxes and solstices one degree every 71.5 years. Because the sun is one-half of a degree wide, it will take the December solstice sun 36 years to precess through the Galactic equator.
The Galactic Equator is a virtual line that describes 0 degrees longitude and 0 degrees latitude, and acts as a divisionary line between the northern and southern hemispheres of the Milky Way galaxy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gal…
The precise alignment of the solstice point (the precise center-point of the body of the sun as viewed from earth) with the Galactic equator was calculated to occur in 1998 (Jean Meeus, Mathematical Astronomy Morsels, 1997 - mentioned by Jenkins at http://alignment2012.com/whatisG… ). This date was further refined by Smelyakov to May 7 1998 (http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/gr... Therefore, if the significance of 2012 is related to a precise intersecting of the Galactic Equator, whatever that significance would have meant would already have occurred.
Due the width of Sun causing an inprecise alignment to still be a visual alignment, the Galactic Alignment "zone" is 1998 +/- 18 years = 1980 - 2016. This is, according to Jenkins, "era-2012."
This Galactic Alignment occurs only once every 25,800 years, and is possibly what the ancient Maya were pointing to with the 2012 end-date of their Long Count calendar.- <better thank me for thaking the time to write that out blueone.KwesiJ
- still very vague calculation.. not very scientific to mejanne76
- You mean copy and pasting that from some hippydoomslayer pseudo science site.TheBlueOne
- its a wiki and basically if you read it and understood it you'd know what the fuck its sayingKwesiJ
- not sure if you realize but you can tell what year it is from the stars...people knew this for millenia, we're very aware of passage of timeKwesiJ
- exptremely clever people we are and time and the stars have always been a big deal, has nothing to do with newage stuffKwesiJ

"But if the moon effects the tides and women's periods then who the fuck is anyone to say this sort of cosmic alignment doesn't effect shit on fucking earth?"
Who said it "doesn't effect shit"? Of course it "effects shit" but it doesn't do this giant fuck all cosmic bong damage age of aquarius bullshit...
Gee, what happened on May 2, 2000? Remember that oh hippydoomslayer?
http://archives.cnn.com/2000/TEC…
You know what happened? Nothing. Fucking nothing. And all the planets all lined up.
Please stop with the pseudo science crap. The local gravitational effects of what happened on May 2, 2000 are far greater than any half-assed understanding of "plane alignment with the milky way" the sun might have with the center of the galaxy, which is about 8.0 kilo parsecs away, you're throwing about all willy nilly, and nothing happened.
- janne760
i need to take a dump now.. brb..
think tis already affecting my shit.
- wait till 2012 and see what your shits likeKwesiJ
- ok, that was funny.TheBlueOne
- shitz for realsKwesiJ
- TheBlueOne0
It's like you take a few bits of something credible - i.e. the relative accuracy of ancient cultures astronomical abilities - mix it with some benign bit of science - the solar system orbits the galactic center - and out comes "Doom!! Age of Aquariius! You don't believe what you can't see! Your tiny scientific knowledge means nothing to ancient-alien-god-cthulu-nibiru... Foolish Puny Human will all die!!"
However I point out that, a) there are solar flares b) we have an electrical grid that is vulnerable to such things c) we currently have actual really real satellites that monitor this shit and d) it seems like the sun is coming into a period of increasing solar flare activity and somehow I am a guy who has a closed mind? And you go on about ancient Mayan calendars. Did they have fucking satellites? Optics? You know, sure they were advanced for their time and technology but you just openly dismissing our tools is the real ignorance here.
- ah, why bother...TheBlueOne
- you choose to focus on the quakckery, theres lots of level headed insight and real science around this stuffKwesiJ
- nadnerb0
I'm sure it has been said in this thread but it bears repeating.
The Mayans NEVER SAID THE WORLD WOULD END IN 2012.
It's just when their calendar repeats. They believed in cyclical time. Not worldwide psychic cosmic or destructive events happening because of solar flares or the galactic center (which we don't even know the exact location of) 'aligning' with the sun.
- TheBlueOne0
Oh, and as for all the psuedo-science babble you quoted about galactic angles and shit, the guy who came up with that, this Jenkins quack? He has no training in astronomy, however he has written book after book about mayans, crystal skulls and pyramids. He has published ZERO papers in any scholarly journal, doesn't disclose what university he went to to learn about the "ancient mayans" but makes a living selling his crappy books thought New Age publishers and giving seminars and his website comes straight out of 1997.
And I'm the ignorant one?
You say there's real science? Please link me to peer reviewed published scholarly works by Jenkins. One. Just one. Link me to where he got his degree and in what field. Tell me what university he teaches at.
Here's an example of Jenkins "reasoning": "The universe is revealed as a multidimensionally interwoven ecology of evolving intelligences, set to make their presence known by AD 2012. How else do transdimensional influences emerge into our world unless they have been brought through the central nexus via a type of conjuring."
No. Science. At. All. None. Not even a vaguely interesting or useful spiritual line of inquiry. Just psychobabble to sell books and videos to the rubes who need a sense of control over their life.
- watever man galactical alignment is fact, its a mathematical astronomical FACT. forget jenkins...you could probably find an astronomy text book with it in itKwesiJ
- ...could probably find a text book writing about it. The mayans accuracy was verified by modern scientists...all this was in doc I sawKwesiJ
- in a doc I saw.KwesiJ
- once again you're choosing to ignore the basic science and focus on some quakery. Just because he goes on about this other stuff doens't nagte the reality of this alignmentKwesiJ
- other stuff doesn't negate the reality of this alignmentKwesiJ
- KwesiJ0
Jenkins didn't invent galactical alignment he's just reiterating and skewing it for his newage stuff. Its still a very real astrological event.
- You mean "astronomical", unless you want to tell me what signs I'm compatible with.TheBlueOne
