"you're choosing to ignore the basic science"
ARRRRRGGGHH!!!!
No, I am not ignoring any science whatsoever. For fuck's sake, OF COURSE the solar system revolves around the center of the galaxy. And it does so on a plane. It's orbit is slanted so it crosses the galactic plane. OF COURSE IT FUCKING DOES, when did I say it didn't. That's the basic science. No fucking shit.
YOU are the one that brings Jenkins into it, I point out the guy is not a credible source and then you say "Well, forget Jenkins...focus on the science.." What science?? You mean the interpretation you just copy and pasted FROM Jenkins material, whose whole point is to use a tiny bit of common, average scientific knowledge and parlay it into a way to put food on his table and change in his bank account by telling people about it having something to do with the Mayan caledar and the "end of a spiritual age"?? WHAT FUCKING BASIC SCIENCE ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT???
And by the way, his interpretation of the Mayan calendar is disputed by actual archeologists.
Fuck, you are a rube.

ARRRGGHHH...what the hell are we arguing about anyway..I've fucking lost it..

"basic point of the mayans understanding the scientific fact of galactical alignment"
Dude, you can't even see the center of the galaxy with the naked eye. You need a radio telescope. The Milky Way is a smear of stars in the sky. The mayans did not conceive of "galaxy" in the modern scientific meaning of the term. Here is the Mayans understanding of the Milky Way:
http://www.michielb.nl/maya/milk…
The only way one could get they saw a "center" from it has to do with the direct visible observation of the milky way from the perspective of the earth. This has nothing to do with the actual Galactic center or plane, which we only now about from radio astronomy and isn't related to what is the "center" of what appears visibly as the Milky Way from earth.
Sigh. Why. do. I . fucking. bother.
- see galactic equator then do a bunch of math, ,measure degrees on earth etc. simple shitKwesiJ
- its aproxamate anywayKwesiJ
- You CAN actually see the galaxy anyway...the mayans said it was a 'bone serpent' or some shitKwesiJ
- You can't see it because we're part of it. You really are an idiot KwesiJmonospaced
- KwesiJ0
not entirely related but I learned the other night that an islamic scientist 1000 years ago showed the circumferance of the entire earth within 200 miles with math.
- don't ask me how you should prolly as the scientists,KwesiJ
- Woop-de-do. Try 195BC and the Greeks.
http://en.wikipedia.…TheBlueOne - I don't need to "ask the scientists" I just have to know history and math, apparently you don't.TheBlueOne
- and you're trying to figure how anyone found the center of the galaxy? its all related, feels like you're playing stupidKwesiJ
- scarabin0
i'm just looking forward to all the dope-ass end-of-the-world parties there's gonna be in 2012

You bother because your brain is powered by rational thought and it sustains itself on empirical evidence. Common sense, contrary to popular belief, isn't divided among us equally, evidenced by the arguments in this thread.
TheBlueOne, you are doomed to an existence where you will forever be irritated by irrational beings and their sensationalism. Individuals like you will be able to point out and avoid the hilarity of pseudo-science (such as astrology), most religious beliefs and individuals such as Jamal_Jenkins and KwesiJ. This blessing of intelligence is a burden you must carry for the rest of your life, and it will always be challenged by these imbeciles.
The fact of the matter is that although there is a progression through the ages (this procession of the equinoxes) it holds no significance except for that it is observable. To claim that entering the next age in 2012 will do anything different than it has in the last few million years is absolutely ridiculous. Let these doomsday fanatics think what they will while we go on with our lives as we should.

"and you're trying to figure how anyone found the center of the galaxy? its all related, feels like you're playing stupid"
ARRRGGHH
Fuck man, look, you obviously don't know what the fuck you are talking about and this is absolutely fucking frustrating. And I know this is a giant cockup waste of time on my part.
The "center of the galaxy" in terms of what determines the gravitational and rotational center is not visible to the naked eye. Even with telescopes it was unable to be determined with any accuracy. It was only with the advent of radio telescopes that they could see where the concentration of radio waves eminating from it where, and could thus determine where it was, within a few degrees of error. It is this center from which we calculate and understand the idea of a "galactic plane" from which all the mumbo jumbo you quoted from Jenkins above stems form.
The visible Milky Way from earth is NOT the whole of the galaxy, although the earth does seem to rotate about it, and it does appear in the sky, and there is an obvious, observable midpoint, much like we can say the sun is at the "center" of the sky at noon. This "center" of the milky way, as observable with the naked eye from the earth does NOT correspond to the where the center of the galaxy is as determined by modern means.
- so all the "passes the galactic plane" crap is NOT what the Mayans meant. And couldn't mean.TheBlueOne
- the center calculatable retard...it was calculated with mayan mathKwesiJ
- No it wasn't retard. Not the actual center...oh forget it...TheBlueOne

Somewhere, on a message board mainly dedicated to astronomy and astro physics, some MIT and NASA guys are vehemently arguing about typefaces and CSS.

i love how everyone on qbn is also an authoritative astrophysicist

KwesiJ wrote this earlier: "so like the sun will REALLY be aligned with the galaxy on the horizon in 2012....what that means if anything who gives a shit its still true and real. But if the moon effects the tides and women's periods then who the fuck is anyone to say this sort of cosmic alignment doesn't effect shit on fucking earth? seriously think about this shit...and the mayans KNEW their was a fucking galaxy! thats amazing"
You're giving this alignment some significance when there is none. Hence, you are somewhat a fanatic about this. There is absolutely no evidence that this will do a damn thing.
- eat dick stupid its just something to consider fuckKwesiJ
- Wow, you really showed your intelligence there, kiddo. How about learning English before writing so much.monospaced
- right the conversation is about my intellegnce obvioulsyKwesiJ
- but you sound like an idiot when you actually defend this stupid shitmonospaced

it's gonna look cool though
- exactly my pointKwesiJ
- you won't see anything...since there won't be anything to seemonospaced
- it's not going to look like anything.TheBlueOne
- well it'll look cool in my imagination thenscarabin

Spirituality was created by humans, right? Well, so was science. Why split hairs over which is more valid?
Both are fascinating and hold truths. I think it's wise to heed information from both stacks.
We are products of the world we invented. This 'future' event happened, will happen, and is happening.
I'm just grateful there is a well-designed forum to read and talk about such things.
- Science wasn't CREATED by humans! Science is only an observation and methods for testing, proving or disproving.monospaced
- Spirituality, on the other hand, is entirely man-made and can't be backed up with real evidence.monospaced
- You know so much, you are amazing. I don't know any designers who even think they know as much as you do.bump79
- scarabin0
science wasn't created by man any more than math or gravity was
- Well...er...i'd argue with you, but I'm all argued out today..TheBlueOne
