I can't find a link but I'm pretty sure that one the guys on Sound Opinions said that the internet and pirated music has the same utility as the radio to bands as their money is made on tour primarily. I personally don't really see what the record companies do for me or what value they add as I am not interested in boy bands and Brittany Spears. Those who support the band the most effectively are those at the show where there is plenty of (occasionally) beautifully created merch that also benefits the bands. I love album cover art but CD's are not the things of beauty that LP's are (King Crimson, Hall of the Crimson King is a classic example compare the two).

I read a good article (can't find the link now) saying that already all music downloads are donationware. Some people just don't notice it.
It is your choice whether you get it via iTunes, Peoplesmusicstore Amazon or download it for free. If you choose to download legally, you are making a donation. You would've gotten it for free just as easily, but you decided to be fair and pay.
An irritating angle, but a sober one.The model is changing, no idea where it leads to though.
I remember when Apple announced last year they'd be getting 30% off AppStore sales (iPhone apps), the developer would get 70%. Some people said Apple were cheeky to rip such a big chunk.
Actually, compared to the music industry it is surprisingly generous.
I hear it's the same 70/30 for iTunes downloads, only record companies get 85% of that 70%.

‘assisting in making copyright content available’
Isn't that what libraries do?
(Just think they could word it better?)

I actually had a lot to say in this thread and spent some time typing a response. I'm a victim of the QBN content filter though. Anyone know what the watch words are?

It all depends on the individual deal done by the label raf.
You can't say with any certainty that apple is 70/30. It's never that clear cut...take this for example;

Not for now. The court ruling will be appealed by the losing party, so it'll be some time before anything happens.
But yes - this is indeed a trial about the legality of running a torrent tracker. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tor…

Can't be arsed to read all of the above, but jesus, is this an error. I'm getting a shirt.... And can please every artist in history that has ever been fucked over by a record company please file a lawsuit now? I think it's the perfect time....

if you pirate a full album, you steal $15 from the record company. not a big deal huh? the taxes after this $15 sale are around $3. with $3 you can feed a kitten for at least 3 days. a cat can only survive a month without food. so if you pirate 10 albums, you kill a poor little kitten.
how many song have you pirated last year???
