Less content - where does everybody think this 'quality' content is going to come from? Nope, I don't see it, just blah blah blah out there.
Video - obviously, but I think this will become content, less boring text, more short, but well thought out video
That's it. In the end, good design is good design. I can't see anythign out there that will be new.
Oh, and hopefully we'll either see #1 good use of 3D in Flash or #2 3D meet a quick death in Flash. I hope for the latter, but I'll welcome seeing some innovative uses.
Experimental sites? I'd love to see them. Still loved the early DesignGraphik sites, Horus Project, etc. But no one gets paid for these.

targeting larger screen sizes like 1280, 1600 with progressively crippled low-res versions. (rather than starting small and progressive enhancement for large monitor). cheap flat screens are making it happen, 2009 is the saturation point (or maybe 2008 was and I missed it)
video production becomes too expensive for most web advertisers. HD especially. The static image makes a resurgence mimicking the time-worn full-page print ad. Creative execution will try to be cheap without looking cheap, rather than expensive production that aims to look like it was done by amateurs. Clever creative abounds as slashed budgets meet low workload.
'should I go freelance' threads will continue.

I think F.W.A.-type sites will continue where appropriate, with Flash technology continuing to push boundaries. I'm wondering if Silverlight is going to catch on as a trend or remain only relevant to the .NET community. I think we're still stuck on the 1024x768 standard for screen resolution we should design within. For now make some top centered background art with whatever sized width you want... because I can see it at least.

A few things come to my mind and they are all really connnected....
Less content - Which equals more space for bigger and easier to see/read graphics and type.
Better usability - Plays off the first point, less clutter, simple, elegant, and easy to use pages. Less is more, to use that cliche but true statment.
I think we are also slowly seeing what was being talked about years ago, that is essentially web applications. The computer may one day just act like a dumb terminal where all applications are simply pulled or leased from the internet. This allows a user to login from anywhere on any computer and basically have access to everything they need. Mkes perfect sense for most things.
I work for a publishing company and we are already seeking ways to utilize web applications for our material. Where people have a login and can access everything they need without owning a book.
Also new media types will no doubt be thrown into the mix, The iPhone is a perfect example of a semi-new platform that Web Designers will probably become familiar with as they grow exponentially in popularity and spawn other types of similar devices.
- Sorry, I don't see this happeningAnders
- ie. less content + better usability, but I'm with ya..Anders
- yeah your probably right.designbot
- I believe the next generation of windows s going to function that way. Just pullings apps from the web.andrewwwahlin
- less content is a good point, most people simply don't read large chunks of text online. People need to be clever, copywriters will be used more hopefully.kev_charlton
