Help Justin

What I don't understand is the point of all of this conjecture. What is the motivation and eventual goal behind each of the factions in the debate.

Paul, who came for help, has a friend in need with whom we are all at least loosely affiliated. This seems like a logical place to come for help since we are a community however geographically diverse.

The QBN moderators are in a unique position that they can bring the issue to the forefront with an attempt to make a horrible situation better. I see this in the same way I see their support of the Patrick O'Brien foundation. Granted, the POBF is a broader foundation meant to help the greater good but would you argue against the foundation by saying that other people have AIDS? No, you would give if you wanted to or you would let it be.

Those people here who have donated are likely the people that are well aware of the suffering in the world and do things to help out with that situation as well. They're the people who give their change and restaurant leftovers to homeless people, too. I'm not trying to say that we're a bunch of Mother Theresa's on this site but people being charitable is usually not an isolated event.

Then there's the people here who feel the need to subjugate the efforts to help an individual by highlighting the plight of the many. What I don't get is what the intention here is. Do these people suggest what to do to help these people that are much worse off than Justin? No. So the only intentions that can be inferred is to create contention.

Yes there are people out there who have it worse off than Justin, help them. There are people out there with family members dying, support them. But neither of those situations should affect your ability or desire to help individuals in your sphere of influence whether its Justin or someone asking for change.

Ghandi has a great quote which amounts to "be the example of change you wish to see in the world." I strongly feel that if people in general did more to make a personal impact in other's lives as well as the more anonymous global impact they can have then a lot more people would get the hint and we'd make this a better place for everyone.

I can't believe you just compared this to POBF.

This is just stuff in a flat. Given the same circumstances, I'd just feel lucky to have not been sleeping there when the fire ripped through.

It's just stuff - largely unnecessary I'd wager (not like your life). I'd be embarrassed if my friends thought asking the internet for help was necessary.

    • so burn all your stuff if its largely unnecessary.AllenF
    • AllenF, if you're really his brother shouldn't you be like, I don't know, NOT ON QBN and out helping him???Lt_Jack_Hammer
    • yeh right, totally, and i donated. so dont bash me for commeting bro allen.e-pill
    • stop fighting with people here and go help your brother with real support.e-pill
  • ninjasavant0

you'll notice I didn't compare this situation to POBF, I equated QBNs support of the causes. They're the same intention from a moderator point of view.

I don't think anyone here is expecting to replace his flat screen TV or his furniture. But if you, god forbid, ever live through something like this, luckily I haven't but my grandmother did twice, you'll realize that its not as simple as getting a check cut from insurance and you're on your way. It takes time, you don't have any of the paperwork you need to even figure out how to get a hold of your insurance. You don't have the forms of ID to get easy access to your financial institutions.

Your computer with all of your bookmarks, passwords, documents, everything, gone. Your backup on your external hard drive, gone. The clothes you're wearing are all you've got. And to add insult to this injury his pets are dead too.

All I'm saying is that the people that are giving here are probably giving elsewhere, too. So is your intention just to stop people from giving extra money to someone in need? If you don't want to than thats fine but whats the goal here?

  • kld0

I'd be really gutted if my pets were in there, wish there was something we could do for them. RIP little buddies.

And to those who question the motives of Paul et al. Please think of justin when he comes here and reads this. If you don't want to help, just don't. Why make a big deal about it here?

  • same0

You guys are still arguing and not kerning. Tisk Tisk.

Your clients are very mad at you now since they won't get their banner ad promoting the newest best energy drink.

  • cannonball0

I think the question here is... is this the right channel to be asking for this kind of help?

  • MrDinky0

    same.
i dont there is a need to say the kind of work anyone does matter nor give different weight to their opinion.

    • Sarcasm man, Sarcasm. Read up on it. I do that kind of work too.same
    • dont think using more sarcasm really helps. thx.MrDinky
    • Now I remember why I don't post here more than a few times a year.same
    • seriously get off your high horse and be with rest of us. thx. you are only making it more difficult for justinMrDinky
    • ???? Are we reading the same thread? Isnt that what I was doing? Trying to get everybody to chill and help?same
    • why bother fanning the flames with sarcasm? just let it. let people talk. say what they wanna sayMrDinky
    • people would have donated if they cared with out saying they did or arguing about it.MrDinky
    • Ok you win at the imaginary debate, I lose. Back to work.same

please donate my some cash as well. I am broke...and on top of that my car just broke down.

I'll put my bank account etc. on my blog.

    thanks in advance!

  • barbtastic0

those of you that keep saying "it's just stuff" haven't experienced the terror of watching their home, your livelihood, and your pets helplessly burning right in front of you.

it becomes a lot more than lost stuff when it hits that you are homeless for an indefinite amount of time and have no immediate way to continue to work and maintain what's left of your life. your entire world changes overnight.

    • I've been there. so if my house burnes to the ground I get a editorial on QBN's homepage too?sureshot
    • +1, that 'stuff' is probably his irreplaceable portfolio, art work, photos, family heirlooms, kld
    • yup, material objects can have huge meaning to someone. Just think about the computers that had work on them.Jaline
  • sputnik20

can't believe this "friend in need" thread turned into a debate about who is or isn't worthy of a hand. wtf? if you have the inclination and means to help justin out please do, but if not, why crap all over this thread?

  • MrDinky0

spuntnik. i dont think its just who deserves or not. when 'same' / Donvitoviti made a thread about it, it did not get the same sentiment,
    http://www.qbn.com/topics/562115…

its just that when it was made in to EC or official QBN thing, people started to question the morality of it. I dont think there is anything wrong with debating it about it.

  • ninjasavant0

I think the difference is that Paul set something up for people to donate and let us know about it. If you also recall 5timuli posted about some trouble he was having and a few of us suggested he do the same thing but he declined.

  • MrDinky0

    followed by comments like..

"You guys are still arguing and not kerning. Tisk Tisk.
Your clients are very mad at you now since they won't get their banner ad promoting the newest best energy drink."
    "Kern bitch, Kern."
"Now I remember why I don't post here more than a few times a year."

what comes to my mind is, so when you need something you come here and ask for the support of the community but yet refuse to participate in the communal process?

    • You seriously don't get it do you.same
    • tisk tisk maybe you should try to raise money rather then trying another imaginary debate.MrDinky
    • here is one for you, you win. back to work.MrDinky
    • I got it as sarcasm...not sure why Dinky is so upset about someone trying to tell people not to argue.Lt_Jack_Hammer
  • same0

I seriously do not understand how you can construe my comments as something bad when it was clearly trying to get people to stop arguing with a bit of light-hearted design humor? Maybe you dont understand that type of humor even if it isn't the absolute best of humor. I honestly do not know if English is your first language because it is pretty obvious that I am just saying lets take a chill pill, help somebody out, and lets all go back to designing for the man (see the humor???).

Secondly you left out why I left those 2ndary jokes.

I started off by saying.... "You all need to really find something better to do than argue over if it's better to give to one person or the another. Just give to both, one or none. Now go make your graphical art."

As for me not being here as much, some of us have to work for a living and can't sit here everyday responding 13,723 times.

Coming here to, as you quote, get something out of QBN and leave? Are you serious? A person I knew just lost his whole life. I came to let people know (NEVER asked for anything) as I know he contributes here. In fact it was another person in the thread that said, hey maybe we help him out. He was currently on the road to his parents house and probably couldnt say what just happened. I never came here to get something out of QBN, I came to let you guys know something bad happened to somebody that contributes here. What am I possibly getting out of this????

When I was in college I was more active as I had more time. Now things have changed, I can't contribute as much as I want, and honestly, i don't come here as much as I used to because of things like this. People getting upset about the stupidest of things.

There is nothing else I can say to you as you have made up your mind that I was out to get somebody or some weird thing. So I have to step out.

  • MrDinky0

most of us dont know who is. seriously. we are only really helping because 1) its fucked up, 2) cause of you.

and its NT, what do you expect? when i posted that my father died, either my thread gets deleted or someone makes nasty comment. i expect that. let people talk.

  • Dr_Rand0

if you don't want to give, don't--why make a big deal about it? it's like people are jealous their mom liked their brother better or something

  • morilla0

Some people didn't get enough hugs when they were younger.

    • reminds me of when people got pissed off they didn't win the qbn skateboardDr_Rand
    • what's a hug?jaylarson
    • or the PSB sponsored by QBN, same deal.morilla
  • MrDinky0

"I honestly do not know if English is your first language because it is pretty obvious that I am just saying lets take a chill pill"

what would an asian person say to this comment?

    • Dinky dude, you need to chill out...clearly it's time to call it a day. You're nitpicking and it's annoying.Lt_Jack_Hammer
  • MrDinky0
