What I don't understand is the point of all of this conjecture. What is the motivation and eventual goal behind each of the factions in the debate.

Paul, who came for help, has a friend in need with whom we are all at least loosely affiliated. This seems like a logical place to come for help since we are a community however geographically diverse.

The QBN moderators are in a unique position that they can bring the issue to the forefront with an attempt to make a horrible situation better. I see this in the same way I see their support of the Patrick O'Brien foundation. Granted, the POBF is a broader foundation meant to help the greater good but would you argue against the foundation by saying that other people have AIDS? No, you would give if you wanted to or you would let it be.

Those people here who have donated are likely the people that are well aware of the suffering in the world and do things to help out with that situation as well. They're the people who give their change and restaurant leftovers to homeless people, too. I'm not trying to say that we're a bunch of Mother Theresa's on this site but people being charitable is usually not an isolated event.

Then there's the people here who feel the need to subjugate the efforts to help an individual by highlighting the plight of the many. What I don't get is what the intention here is. Do these people suggest what to do to help these people that are much worse off than Justin? No. So the only intentions that can be inferred is to create contention.

Yes there are people out there who have it worse off than Justin, help them. There are people out there with family members dying, support them. But neither of those situations should affect your ability or desire to help individuals in your sphere of influence whether its Justin or someone asking for change.

Ghandi has a great quote which amounts to "be the example of change you wish to see in the world." I strongly feel that if people in general did more to make a personal impact in other's lives as well as the more anonymous global impact they can have then a lot more people would get the hint and we'd make this a better place for everyone.
