And I go like this:
10$ or less 2$
20$ or less 3 or 4$
30$ or so 5-8$
40$ or so 10$And like whatever, I usually never dine over 15$ though.

I have not yet started this. I will start it tonight. I will let the 'servers' know they are not getting tipped in advance:
Server: Hi how are you tonight?
Me: great, I don't tip.- liesDr_Rand

well, I've worked in the service industry for almost 4 years and tipping was the way I made a living. I treated and served every customer with respect until they disrespected me. If my service was horrible cuz I was in the weeds and I didn't get tip, then cool, I can deal with that. But if I'm on point and make you an order of 4 mixed drinks and pop 4 different beers for you and you don't tip, you better only order bottled beer or just don't come back to my bar at all or else you'll be drinking 90 mixer/10 alcohol drinks for the rest of the night. and you'll wait til I serve the rest of the people at my bar til you get served.

For my part I have not suggested that anything has been handed to you; if you really have waiting experience then I stand corrected, though I find it incredibly hard to believe that given your attitude.
This is not a movement, it's a rant. If you want to instigate true change, don't post on QBN. Get the attention of your reps in Congress/Senate. I have no problem with the idea of ditching tips if waiters/waitresses get paid more; but I say pay them more FIRST, then get rid of tips, as opposed to stiffing some kid who needs the money, simply because you have a gripe with the tipping system.

I bartended my way through college (that and hustling pool but that's another story). After doing that I'd like to consider myself a good tipper because I know firsthand how absolutely shitty of a job it is to serve 80% of the filth that used to come into the restaurant.

- This steak is Medium... I SAID MEDIUM WITH A TOUCH OF PINK AND 150 DEGREES!
- This beer tastes flat, gimmie another! Me: Uh, but sir you drank the whole beer.Waitstaff and bartenders are miserable because they have to serve miserable people. It's a vicious cycle.

I am not European. I am not cheap. This attitude is the problem:
But if I'm on point and make you an order of 4 mixed drinks and pop 4 different beers for you and you don't tip, you better only order bottled beer or just don't come back to my bar at all or else you'll be drinking 90 mixer/10 alcohol drinks for the rest of the night.
Tips are 100% expected and judged. I've got news for you, they are voluntary.
- And you're a cheap fuck.dirtydesign
- You are cheap.hedge
- tips are not 100% expected. If you can't afford to go out and get served then you should stay your ass home.Point5

I used to work in a pizza shop. When dealing with people like you, I'd wipe my ass with my hand before pounding the dough. Then others would pick their nose and add it to the pie. So enjoy that...

you got me there sikma....In addition to being a loser [pointed out in another thread] I have not considered this when creating my movement.
I will report back.....but I wouldn't count on me having anything but theory as the probability of me actually securing a date is pretty out there.

I love how were continue the vicious cycle of allowing establishments to pay their employees poorly since we will supplement it with tips. Even if they suck.
I am sorry, I will tip and tip well, if it deserved. If it was good, but nothing special, then 15%.
If you're rude, don't refill drinks, clear dishes etc.and there is no good reason (ie. crazy busy and short staffed) then you get nothing. And for those who worry about what you might get going back, if you have a shite dining experience... why would you go back?I am tired of it. I am supposed to tip everyone, regardless of service - waiting staff, taxis, shuttles, bellmen, delivery people,.doorman, barber. Do a GOOD job, you get rewarded. It's not a right.
I loved my trip to the UK. They actually appreciated tips, and I was rewarded with even better service for doing so. It wasn't expected of me to just do it. I tipped the bar staff, and they would serve me ahead of everyone else at the bar. I tipped my bellman at the hotel for prompt service and he kindly gave us some valuable insight into the city for our day.
My recent trip to SF, I had a lot of great waiting staff and we tipped well. I know if that city they rely on their tips, and they earned them.
The way it should be. One thing I don't do though, is figure the tip excluding alcohol. I dislike that, I tip on the whole total.

i hate the system of tipping. why not include the cost of servicing into the price structure and have employers pay properly to their employees.
- YOU'RE BREAKING THE 4TH WALL!7point34
- bad tips weed out the bad employees. if you are a good server, you are rewarded.TeganTorch

I'd rather not tip and have the bartender call me a cunt. Aren't we then even?
- if you don't want to get served again. then yes you are even.nicole_marie
- I really don't see why you have to give bartenders that much money. I know they are people blah blah blah, but still.Jaline
- exactly, bar tenders just serving beer and the occasional mixed drink have to deal with 1/10 what food servers do.threadpost

That's how it works at many high-end restaurants and pretty much all high-end hotels.
