I love how were continue the vicious cycle of allowing establishments to pay their employees poorly since we will supplement it with tips. Even if they suck.

I am sorry, I will tip and tip well, if it deserved. If it was good, but nothing special, then 15%.
If you're rude, don't refill drinks, clear dishes etc.and there is no good reason (ie. crazy busy and short staffed) then you get nothing. And for those who worry about what you might get going back, if you have a shite dining experience... why would you go back?

I am tired of it. I am supposed to tip everyone, regardless of service - waiting staff, taxis, shuttles, bellmen, delivery people,.doorman, barber. Do a GOOD job, you get rewarded. It's not a right.

I loved my trip to the UK. They actually appreciated tips, and I was rewarded with even better service for doing so. It wasn't expected of me to just do it. I tipped the bar staff, and they would serve me ahead of everyone else at the bar. I tipped my bellman at the hotel for prompt service and he kindly gave us some valuable insight into the city for our day.

My recent trip to SF, I had a lot of great waiting staff and we tipped well. I know if that city they rely on their tips, and they earned them.

The way it should be. One thing I don't do though, is figure the tip excluding alcohol. I dislike that, I tip on the whole total.
