Interview with the show's writer. I think he confirms the impressions I had - that there isn't any heavy-handed story arc in the works, just following the characters as their lives play out.

Or maybe neither. Kind of like the Sopranos, I didn't feel there was any great takeaway at the end of the series, the characters themselves were the focus. You follow their life for a while and then it ends.

That makes sense. I felt like I missed an episode. He has barely talked to her is the last few episodes and then he told her how much he loves her. I guess he was advertising to her - like she told him not to earlier in the show. Overall not very climactic. I would love to just see more inner workings of an agency. I wonder how much I'd care about the show if I wasn't interested in design.

There's an interesting disjunct playing out .. as Don becomes more aware of who he is and what he requires, the way he's accustomed to interacting with the world (as philandering, misogynistic king of the world) is becoming less relevant.
The world is changing, fast. He's in danger of being left behind - but I suppose this recent coming of age saga could turn out well for him.
It's a bitter-sweet paradox - as we become older, we learn what we always needed to know when we were young.

this season is damn good.
Pete wont do anything... he cant. Don is what makes that place. without him they have nothing. he knows that.
Thats why he took all that shit from Roger. dude I give him props.
- He took the shit from Roger - but for how long? The pressure's only going to increase ...lukus_W

Draper is a scumbag. He's up to something. He's not in love. He's full of shit. It seemed he was reacting to his x-wife firing their kids' life long Nanny, and them moving, which would make him have to be more responsible in the long run. So, the opportunist that he is, latched on to the first comfortable person that seemed to be good with his kids, seemed enamored with him, and can be a good little wife. And he also just happened to have that ring with him, it made him look like he was really thinking about this for a while, when in actuality it's all just an impulse. Next ep, he's sleeping with someone else, guaranteed.

That episode was amazing I had to catch up on the last 4 episodes this weekend so really the whole last half was great, I love Don's character more and more.
just wanted to add that January Jones is on SNL this weekend, I am curious to watch.

My favorite episode so far for this season. You could see that car wreck coming a mile away.

Did we skip 1967? What happened to the attention to detail?

Come on. Most ad people are pretty one-dimensional, so in a sense they are based on real people.

Don isn't a great creative. All day long he tells companies about how they're perceived by consumers. Yet he doesn't understand why he needs to be a good face for the company when being interviewed by Ad Age? It's odd, he usually understands the role he plays.
- Don clearly believes his work speaks for him.ETM
- There's a conflict between Don's own personal (hidden) identity, the story he's spun around those he's close to, and his professional identity.lukus_W

- i noticed he's always resting on his couch.instrmntl
- Ummm, a good creative director is a good strategist. It's not all about making up taglines and jingles, or even painting a pretty picture. The central dogma of advertising is manipulation and perception by consumer is paramount to building a GREAT campaign.ethandmarquis
