Welcome Killerqueen!!!!
What the hell have I done?
lolz... killerqueen... thanks for the morning entertainment.
To clarify:
I just took a new gig... and the owners are now calling me the C.D.... and not one of the A.D.'s (who sit and create / research all day... then hand off to whoever)..... you see... my new contract says: Art Director... which is all I've ever really done... create the look and feel... BUT... I also implement/produce everything which probably just makes me a designer/production lacky (in the eyes of KillerQueen)... at the same time... I also source a lot of shit to the 'right people' and manage it (the C.D. aspect of things)...
... regardless... I have a wonderful understanding of the diff. between the two... I was curious to hear to what others had to say as I know I'm far from alone in the world of working w/primarily sales/marketing people... I will pay closer attention as to how I word shit in the future so as to not confuse obviously self-centered angry folx such as killerQ.... who have nothing to show for themselves but stupid blog sites...
I still love Rand... btw.

creative directors assign projects from clients to art directors beneath them. (ad agencies can have several c.d.s) They will also cherry pick the best assignments for themselves. art directors take said assignments (less those cherry picked) and create a piece (usually an ad) using various "artists" (designers, videographers, photographers, illustrators, typographers, stylists, etc...) to make their vision come to life. (that sounds like a cheesy brochure headline, "So, you wanna be an art director, eh?")

its just a title so unless you get pay like a one, your just have a fancy facade.
ex. at a client meeting, my boss said I was the senior art director. yeah right, if I was he wouldn't afford me. hah.
- :) These are the kind of comments I was hoping to get... examples of 'titles' being tossed around like candy.PonyBoy
- ... we may have the same boss. :)PonyBoy
- I have two. hah.akrokdesign
- yeah how funny. I'm callled a sr art director then we have associate CD's then a couple CD's then one Exec CD (top dog) oh and dont forget the executive creative producer and all the Sr IA's and strategists. That's just in our office, the agencies and clients we work with also have their structure of 50 people. What all this means is that I work at least a 10-12 day and weekends trying to solve problems forfortified

I've seen junior designers called "Art Directors" at various Ad agencies and people that should be paid and titled Art Director with Creative Director duties still titled as "Designer" or "Joe who does the graphics". It really doesn't matter. Its just a title. Its all about how much respect you can get out of your superiors and colleagues. If you care about all that shit at all.
I'll stay in freelance/sole proprietor mode thanks.
