too right.

not at all, i am actually pointing the statement directly at said groups.
to that end, can we not say that the colonializing societies of Africa, Sub-Continental India and South America were/are not bible-guided?

Jesus loved Samaritans. The religious people of his day wouldn't touch them, let alone look at them.
He is the antithesis of racism.

do not judge someone by others
judge someone for them self
you will be judged in the same way

totally agree MrD. it is when such types institute practices to 'tell' others to believe in something, it becomes agrovating.
there are many things i believe in, but not for a moment of my life would i, personally, attempt to get another human to believe in them too.

My Bible doesn't support such events.

whichever personality 'jesus' may/may not have been, i think we can clearly agree on that statement.
it is not that 'person' being discussed here though; it is those who follow those writings and interpret them, no? (and thier actions, etc.)

dont you think that its same as stereotyping a group of people?
not by race but by what they believe in?

The problem is that most people believe in a caricature of the Bible and it's teachings, fed to them by their ideologue gurus.
Intellectual honesty demands that we do our own investigation.

nonsense, madrish. First, what cultures are "bible guided"? Secondly, are you simply ignoring the human rights and missionary groups in the name of Christ, or are you just dishonest?
flagellum
(Oct 12 07, 07:39)flagellum, it's far from nonsense! madirish couldn't have said it better.
Religious leaders have always been hypocrites. The second greatest commandment is to love neighbor as self, but self professing 'Christians' engage in warfare with fellow Christians,' not in the name of god but for king and country.Religion is under so much scrutiny today because of such contradictions. I'm not saying all Christians, Muslims, Jews... are bad people, just that you need to practice what you preach otherwise you will look like George Bush - and he looks ridiculous!

the colonisation of Africa, Sub-Continental India and South America was perpetrated by "societies" that were nominally Christian, this is undeniable.
The colonisation was as much to do with corruption of power as anything else, the teachings of Christ do not condone the enslavement or bondage of any one group of people.
Much in the same vain as Bush claiming to be "christian" and deciding that "an eye for an eye" more suits his purposes than "turn the other cheek".
These people are not religious or spiritual in the slightest.
