"Reading this so called 'Holy' tome is really heavy going, an edited version with commentry proving or disproving the validity of the stories with current evidence would be more appropriate for reading in schools. Full of slaughter, evil laws, sexual deviance and mindless violence, as this book stands it is boring, repetitive and difficult to fathom out. "

(Oct 12 07, 04:03)Editing it would create a version that is not the word of God, since such editing would be human-driven and not God-driven.
Evil laws? Which of God's laws are evil? This person seems to be woefully lacking in discernment. I'd be interested to know what they consider "good" laws.
The "mindless" violence portrayed in the Bible is never God-ordained. Those passages are patently obvious in their simple presentation of life as it happened. God often and severely punished people who committed senseless violence. Ditto w/ sexual deviance. We do happen to live in an imperfect world, you know. I wonder if this person, based on their little Biblical synopsis, reads anything besides nursery rhymes or limits their movie-watching to Disney cartoons.
And yes, it is difficult to fathom. Parts of it are thus far unfathomable. I would even agree that parts are boring. But there are interesting gems that present themselves upon repeated reading, study, and research into context and history. Some of the most beautiful and celebrated poetry is in the Bible (Song of Solomon, the Psalms, Proverbs, Lamentations, even the oft-dry book of Numbers).
For historical proofs of many Biblical events, go pick up a set of Encyclopedia Brittanica. Or look it up online.

ugh... lost cost, gramme... you'll just make yourself upset trying to defend such things here.

I love amazon reviews. Always good for a chortle and guffaw.
But the Bible... survived countless banning attempts, mass burnings, scrutiny of all sorts.
...and still today changes lives, all over the globe, with the message of the unrelenting love of Jesus Christ. :)

(Oct 12 07, 07:31)just like ethnic and cultural groups that are not caucasian by origin

Nice to see someone defending the bible in a non evangelical way.
- PonyBoy0
so... are you saying Christians are only Caucasian?
- flagellum0
indeed, madrish!
- mrdobolina0
Aren't these people joking for the most part?
- flagellum0
I hope he's not, Pony, since Adam and Eve weren't.
- flagellum0
mrdobolina: yes. Just look at the reviews for David Hasselhoff's records.
Amazon reviews are never to be considered when contemplating the purchase of anything. They are for amusement only.
- mrdobolina0
cool, just needed to clarify before you guys start writing essays about it.

yet virtually all of them have been/are prosecuted by bible-guided cultures and societies.
odd.
you would think those that championed and search for the 'teachings' they promote, would work in opposite ways throughout history.
- flagellum0
I would never take the time to respond to an amazon review. In most cases, the people haven't read what they are reviewing.
- flagellum0
nonsense, madrish. First, what cultures are "bible guided"? Secondly, are you simply ignoring the human rights and missionary groups in the name of Christ, or are you just dishonest?
