The only thing i know about is: Philips replacement pieces are easier to get in Europe than the others brands...

I'd say Sony...
The fact that they don't submit their TVs for reviews (you'll rarely see a Sony set in a mag getting reviewed) because they *know* they are good speaks for itself...

Make sure you get Full HD not 'HD Ready.'
More like BS Ready!

Depends on size... you won't notice the difference between 1080i and 1080p unless you are going for 42" or above.
It's a funny one, do you future-proof yourself with 1080p on a screen size you'll never notice the difference on, or save some cash and go for 1080i.
I guess what I'm trying to say is if you end up with 42" + TV, get 1080p otherwise don't worry about it...
I've got a 32" Sony Bravia (can't remember the exact model number). It's 1080i, I use it for gaming on PS3 and Blu Ray and the picture is amazing...

The predicament Im in is this...
I personally think IMHO the best best TV out there at the moment ambilight aside is the 37" 1080p LCD FULL HD from Philips - for about 1200 quid.
Saying that tho it is only 6000:1 pixel ratio
THIS IS THE BIT I dont understand.
You can buy a panasonic HD READY (shite apparently) with between 8000-10,000:1 pixel ratio
Bu that - surely pixel ratio is king???
Its like their new ones (panasonic) claim to be 100hz - I thought that was old school!?!?!
Should I go for the philips??

Pixel ratio, along with contract ratio (are they the same thing?) aren't that comparable because companies tell it differently.
Sony I've got said it was 1000:1 contrast ratio, I saw a Samsung that was 5000:1 so I thought the Samsung was better...
Turns out the Sony is 5000:1, it's just the way Sony tell you stuff like that... the manual had a 'small print' section that gave the 'real' ratio away.
It's really confusing, eh? :)

i haven't been very lucky with Sony - but as far as i remember i was never very lucky with any piece of equipment - i guess becoming obsolete and cracking down in 1,5 years is part of their nature.

I guess whatever you buy is out of date asap. The philips one is 1200 quid mind you - hence me putting it to you lot first
Fucking nightmare buying TV's

(Aug 7 07, 03:42)this made me laugh. no offense but this is one of the most ridiculous things i have heard today. they *know* bwahahaha
they also *know* how to kill formats as well. ie beta, minidisc, blu-ray...only time will tell.

i have the samsung 56" dlp hdtv and i am very impressed with it.
it was a toss up between that and the aquos... which was also very good but more expensive.
