Yeah dude. Everyone gets it. Banksy is past his prime, old news, and we're all over it. Pointing it out to everyone just makes you look like bitter. Move along, there is plenty of better art in the world waiting for you.

Utopian, the miserable cunt, strikes again.

Sometimes his pieces strike just the right note, for me at least. I randomly saw this one a year or two ago in dtla, I thought it was clever. The scale of it is huge, and yet it's also really subtle and almost hidden. And fuck yeah another park in downtown would be nice, or at least the thought of one. That lot is super hot, bright and depressing. The fact that he made this piece location specific and context-aware, showed he paid attention to my city, gave it some thought and found a way to say something directly to me. so there, i liked a Banksy piece. what.

I wonder how many people know the guy– and know he's actually Banksy. You would want to keep that group pretty small.
The "great artists get really really rich' part of the above sign makes me wonder how he is paid as 'banksy'. He would to have representation from which the galleries worked through, right? So there are at least a handful of people in the management company that know his identity, and his accountant, etc - maybe a larger list now that I think about it.
Will he be less famous when his identity is confirmed? Is the excitement and popularity solely the mystique? Curious, since a number of artists have pretty accurately reproduced the stencil style w/ social or political messaging - passing it off as Banksy.

Banksy is now a brand more than anything else. It's not important who he is. His work is like a comedy sketch show, some of it hits the mark, some of it is generic, some of it is downright dog-toss. All of this is OK - even Picasso had some shoddy work.
Ultimately he is just an artist, not a heroic social commentator and savior of the modern world.
- Tell that to "nb" and "josimar"utopian
- please DO NOT mention Picasso and Banksy in the same paragraph.fadein11
- Why not? You're not one of these elitist art aficionados are you?Morning_star

- Art has many genres and guises, some you obviously hold in less regard. My point was that ALL artists' work varies in quality. NotMorning_star
- a direct artistic comparison between Banksy and Picasso. I feel stupid explaining this to you.Morning_star

I would say he's more of a provocateur than an artist.
- more of a marketing/PR stunt than provocateur and or artist.utopian
- What is he selling on the market if he's a marketer?cannonball1978
- he's an artist who does provocative PR stuff not hard to understanduuuuuu
