now that i've been drwan into this short bus of a thread....
this appears to have been a systematic faliure. in 1965 congrees mandated levy improvements (after camile i belive?). They were only 80% completed. how many presidnts, senators, and congressmen failed to address the issure in this time period?
FEMA's paln for Katirna looks to have been ridicously short sighted. ...at least they had a plan. The local NOLO leaders (may whom are balck to address this race jive) seemed to have been caught with thier pants down. They live there days in and day out.....They live day after day with the risks...
Citizens too. There was a great article (in Time maybe?) I read a while back... How like 80% of New Yorkers have a "survial kit" ....resousces to get them through a few days after a terrorist attack.
Peeps in nolo sure needed some survival kits. For wahtever reason they didn't have them.

what fucking planet are you living on mate? they've been doing computer scenarios of what would happen if the levee broke for years.
they knew perfectly well what was going to happen.
wake up

help now and bitch later is all i am saying.

Enter response:
all politics aside - Mr. West should have kept his mouth shut simply for the reason that the forum he chose to give his opinion in was NOT the place to be doing so.
This was a benefit to raise money for immediate victims who were still trapped or in serious need - This was not a townhall 'open forum' to run one's mouth. All that did was stir up shit that WILL BE stirred up in the future once we're past the recovery phase and into making sure it doesn't happen again.
chrome_dream said it well: 'help now and bitch later'.
The Gov response has been weak - Bush knows and admitted it - so leave it be until the immediate need to get starving/dying people to safety is out...
then we LEARN from it...
... but I'm not holding my breath. :) Too many huimans in the mix.

Moral cowardice that keeps us from speaking our minds is as dangerous to this country as irresponsible talk. The right way is not always the popular and easy way. Standing for right when it is unpopular is a true test of moral character.

Jevad. You're right. They've been doing computer tests on the situation for years. In fact a pulizter prize winning newspaper article came out in 2002 and was printed in the NO newspapers. EVERYONE knew of the potential problems. The Mayor. The Governor. Everyone who has lived there since then has known that this is coming. So no offense but you cannot just blame the President for the situation. Blame the people in place in the state itself who had opportunities to mobilize things before the freaking thing even hit. Would you blame the president if you got caught in a avalanche in Colorado? Maybe I'll blame Bush the next time there's an earthquake in California. Im sorry but there is just no way to completely plan for a NATURAL DISASTER. Its not a 3rd grade fire drill.

Pwned!!
I saw that here in PT. Cut Cut!!
ahaha

Damn... pissed off that I missed it. I hate to jump in here and get all political, but:
In my opinion, it seems like the situation in NOLA is simply a casual genocide and class elimination. The poor are being left there to rot and die. In this situation, probably about 89% of those stranded are poor, and about 90% of that group is black. It's the south, thats the way it is. The money will stay where the money has been. That guy at FEMA popped off in an unacceptable manner because there was major heat coming down his pipeline for how everyone has been dragging their feet. As far as the people shooting at police and rescuers goes, take care of them by any means necessary. I don't think that it was right that Kanye West said what he did on national TV, but there are way more people in this country with a lot more power than a black rap artist that are saying and doing way worse without suffering any repercussions.

I was just writing a post sayin that its so sad to see that only the poorest people (mostly black) were left in that misery and agony.
It makes me wonder how would it be in other way.
I feel for you.
Jah Bless.

"People do not understand politics. They don't understand that bitching at the President does not help"
Iscariot
(Sep 3 05, 02:04)There are fundamental rights and freedoms that a 1st world country should uphold. saying that the government is not culpable because poor people are poor is 'what is absolutely frightening'...
- currey0
also, mississippi is predominately black, which is why you will find alot of black people there. amazing how that works.
- Point50
not sure if you were being sarcastic or not

thanks point5, numbers don't lie.
all i can say at this point, is that everyone wants to go to heaven, nobody wants to die.

It's interesting how much this thing was censored. It reminds me of fascistic 3rd world country where when someone talks crap about their president or government gets censored.
It's like when he said that every freaking big news media company got calls from the guys upstairs to kill that shit. It's pathetic how little liberty you really have in this country. People are delusional if they think they have freedom.
This unfortunate event just shows a couple of things. How is it possible that Louisiana in general got to the point where it is in, with so much poverty to begin with? It's because the government (both democratic and republican) chose not to deal with it instead of changing the situation. They constantly refuse to invest into progress in that state and now everyone is acting surprised, why this and why that.
The point that some other people here raised is this:
If this shit happened in California (Beverly Hills or whatever) do you think that it would take them 4 fucking days to react. I DON'T THINK SO.
It's so fucking pathetic. People need to scratch their heads, think about where this country is going and who's running the show. Unfortunately it's easier to debate then do something unless your own ass is in the sling.
