I'd say that's the final word then, the ad worked.

i think i sorta get fate's idea.
its like taking a pic of a turd and typesetting the word 'crap' next to it. that doesnt make it an ad.
but if you place that ad in
shit sammich magazine it is an ad. and well intended
that is where i take issue i guess

'Graphic Design' is not the be-all-end-all. Just because its not 'Graphic Design' doesn't mean its not Design.
Why get caught up in labels? "Oh, its not graphic design, its [art direction, ad design, production etc".
Such a narrow view of Design.
Those Bally examples are absolutely products of a design process imho.
Thoughtful deliberation and decision making is evident; a definite orchestration of numerous specialists coming together to fulfill one vision. They communicate a message. They have polish and sense of purpose.
Design isn't just about type and being 'clever'.
- BonSeff0
that was a horrible metaphore.
i should just say you cant simply separate graphic design from visual communication.

just barely

but, whoever did it, had to think about the type. typography is a large part of design. wether it came in 1 minute or 45, it still is design.
- jdcomba0
i do understand what you guys are saying tho. i mean i could even make this shit. but still.....

They didn't have to think about type. And Wink didn't create that logo.

but some body had to crop the photo and place the logo to balance

I think the difference between "I could do that" and "I did that" is quite obvious.

skt, if you had read the thread, you would have saw where someone else brought that image of mine up. And you also would have saw where I explained those were pieces of a full-fledged Flash website.

(Jul 21 05, 04:26)I thought they might have. But I still couldn't be arsed reading it all.

who took the photo? well, if it's some random weirdo sitting in a room, taking images given to them, and logos given to them. then it's borderline. not so sure bout that.

and to the point of ad design being the status quo..
well there is the school of thought that if it ain't broke, dont fix it. and then there's, if it ain't broke, break it.
when it comes to fashion, tho former seems to be the safe bet.
product + sexy photo + logo =
laugh to bank easy peasy
