grafholic,
i recommend you joining a group that supports NT friends in non-religious manner.

I have a therapist. I don't need a support group - I need answers.

on the topic though, church has been a wonderful experience for me. I've developed some relationships that go deeper than words and I have people that I know would be there to help me no matter what the situation. And to pray for me as well. The community of faith is an amazing thing.

jevad, there's a passage I'd like to share with you:
Matthew Ch.7 -
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."

ok, maybe support group was a bad way of saying it.
but reading your post, i highly doubt church will provide you with the answer, either.
ever tried tarot card and know the meaning of "hermit"?
sometimes life gets to be like that. it's a dark road you walk on, but eventually there'll be a light at the end of the tunnel. often one finds the exit by oneself, others through discussion with others.

The real answer is that there are no answers. Life is funny and you're just here for a ~75 year ride.
discipler, GeorgiePorgie is quite jealous that you found that. in fact he's punching me right now to use this computer.

there's no question that you will receive all manner of advice during this difficult time. Some of it good, some of it not so good. I can only share from experience that I believe we all have a God-shaped void that only he can fill. We desperately try to fill it with other things, but we ultimately come up empty. :)

kld....interesting...I have always been a fan of buddhist philosophy

To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.
When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.

That's what I am looking for - a forward thinking liberal church where I don't have to listen to any whacko extremist opinions on how I should be living my life

-----------------------------you just described religion in general. try the unitarian church, they accept all.
on another note, you're living in one of the most conservative states in the union. get your head out of your ass and get outta dodge.

that doesn't answer my question.

naropa is right down the street from your office. If it worked for jack kerouac maybe you wll find what youre looking for.
I've heard naropa isn't very true to traditional buddhism so maybe just read or research buddhist teachings. The answers you're looking for are inside yourself.

Ephesians 1 -
"...in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way."
Ephesians 2 -
"For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit."
