Every person must persuade his or herself of truth.
Based on his teachings Jesus was either Lord, lunatic or liar.
...is there another option?

i dont think you've ever convinced anyone in your whole time ranting about your religion on here.

god was created to confuse us and waste time
too bad it worked so well...
see Your beliefs? thread.

Kuz, I'm not about convincing people here. I'm about sharing another point of view. And almost everything I write, is in response to what someone else has already said. Again, I don't start these threads.
That being said, you never know how many honest seekers are viewing these threads and are influenced by what is written. :) I only ask that people go and research stuff for themselves.

how exactly do I accept jesus into my life? just by saying that?
- discipler0
If you understand what he did for you and you truly desire the forgiveness he provided and believe that he is who he said he was... just tell him so and by so doing, you are placing your faith and trust in him. :) Placing your trust in Christ and receiving the gift of eternal life are synonymous in the Bible.
The Bible puts it this way:
Romans 10:9-10
"...if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."

"The problem is that it contradicts the NT manuscript records which are the most reliable evidence we have of the life and ministry of Jesus. "

Let me guess. Discipler is:
1. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (100%)
It would seem that your whole argument for Protestant Evangelical Christianity depends on the Bible being the perfect, infallible word of God , as well as being a completely accurate historical account of events - a text devoid of even superficial error. Now is this premise based on:
1. an honest, objective, independantly motivated study of the text using standard methods of literary and historical analysis
or
2. a study of the text guided by your church leaders and motivated by a desire to justify doctrinal presumptions

Punch, the answer is door #1. I embarked on said study before becoming a believer. So, it was objective and perhaps even with a healthy dose of skepticism. And well, my conclusion is that of many who have done the same: the Biblical record is reliable.
Most historical volumes that you and I accept without question are based on 7 to 10 manuscript copies and are replete with significant errors. In contrast, there are over 120 manuscripts uncovered for the NT record alone and which bear an uncanny and remarkable consistency with one another and stand up under the most scrutinizing Textual Criticism. Check into it.

Nice, punch. I'm looking forward to that.

Discipler, even the synoptic gospels contradict each other on basic narrative details.
- discipler0
Punch you are speaking of "apparent contradictions". Deeper study reveals a perfect harmony between the synoptic gospels, they actually compliment each other providing details where another does not.

disipler makes me temporarily hope god is real, for he will not allow discipler into heaven
god does not need a PR man nor want one from what i would assume
all the others talking in his name molest children, i wonder if this is true of our religious informant

not cool v3.

Discipler -
No, I am not talking about missing details, I am talking about actual contradictory accounts.
I know you know the verses, and I also know that it is an act of intellectual dishonesty to deny the problem.
- jakeyj0
yeah i agree punch there are contradictions.
i don't get worried about it personally. there was like a 60 minutes special or something awhile back where 10 people witnessed a crime and they all gave ten different accounts on some crucial details. big deal. did it mean the crime didn't happen? no.
i think if they were trying to make the story up or whatever they would have had much closer accounts and would have gotten together to make sure their stories all lined up.
my thoughts....
