Because even though we didn't ask to be born, we still have a sin nature that needs dealing with. And remember, even if there wasn't the pervading sin nature... we would still choose to sin.

Well, if humans had conjured it up it would be like the other religions of the word, i.e.: performance based. "Do!".
Biblical Christianity is receiving Christ as a gift without performance. "Done!".
It was "done" when Christ said, "It is finished." on the cross. :)

=============that's your opinoin, and it is neither here nor there. The crux of Christianities need to believe in providence is as old as the old shamanistic cults of the Ice Age.

Disproving the bible is the very core of
disproving christianity. The question is not "What did Christ say?" but "What qualifys him as authoritative?"(And since the bible claims your eternity (which tends to be longer than a very long time) is at stake, I think it's an important issue to not take lightly.)

Of course, _smk... there are plenty of good people in the world. But good people who still sin against a God who's standard is perfection. :)
It's not about good people go to heaven, bad people go to hell. The Bible doesn't teach that. Nicodemas was a good and religious man... but, Christ still told him he needed to be born again. :)

Oh come on, do you expect me to belive in a book that already had a few versions and his first version was writen 2000 yrs ago as the absolute true?? Nop, not me. I already had my dose of opium in this life. I do have my theory about christ, and I do admire him has a great MAN. He was the firs COMUNIST on the planet that open his mouth against the power of those times! And I dont take this as an absolute true! Just a theory, but I can start a religion! ;)

_smk, i'll give you the whole great big lowdown at the next chosstopia meeting (bite your tongues, brains in the gutters!). meanwhile, suffice it to say that i was the virgin in question and very nearly had my goose cooked!

so discipler - am i wrong in being resentful? (as per the beginning of my thread) and stick my middle finger up at god? how can your creator expect anything else?
- discipler0
kuz, it really isn't my opinion. It's what the Bible says. But I don't think anyone wants me quoting a bunch of verses here. ;)

no discipler, i said its your opinoin that: "if humans had conjured it up it would be like the other religions of the word, i.e.: performance based. "Do!"."
There are many less ritualistic religions than Christianity. Many, many, many, fuckin many. (MANY!). You need to get out more.

Kuz, I suppose he could expect that if he had not provided a way out that is received as a free gift and which leads to an abundant life here and joyous life in eternity to come. :)
Elfangio, volumes of history that you accept as truth without question don't have near the credentials and reliability of the manuscript codexes that we get our modern Bible translations from. This is why brilliant scholars with PHD's recognize it as the infallible word of God. Get acquainted with science of textual criticism and you'll find out how remarkably reliable and inerrant our Bible is. :)

free gift? interesting choice of words. Free gift? So i don't need to do ANYTHING for it? I could be and act how i like and still receice this FREE gift - since it's free and it's mine?
what is this free gift?
- discipler0
kuz, no need to get harsh. I know of no belief system that teaches anything remotely like the Bible's plan of redemption.
If you go the grave of Muhammed, you have to say, "here he lies". If you go the grave of Buddha, you have to say, "here he lies". If you go the grave of Zoroaster, you have to say, "here he lies". If you go to the grave of Christ, you have to say, "WHERE IS HE?" See, in contrast to dead religions which follow dead leaders thru hopeless ritual, Biblical Christianity presents a risen savior who actually dealt with our sin problem and who claimed to be God in the flesh and who offers us forgiveness and eternal fellowship with him as an absolutely free gift. :)

#Romans 6 -
"For the wages of sin is death, but the GIFT of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord."
The gift is eternal fellowship with Christ... Christ in us. The Bible says that if we turn to Christ in faith alone and receive what he did for us at the cross and thru the empty tomb... we receive that gift and are saved from our sin and from an eternity seperated from him. :) (see John Ch. 3 and Romans Ch. 8-10).

And in most Bible teaching churches, the receiving of this gift is expressed thru a simple prayer. When I was saved in December of 1992, I simply prayed to God and told him I received the free gift he offered to me in his love and I thanked him for the forgiveness provided in Christ. And since then, it's been a wild ride of ups and downs and joy and wonderful relationships made with other believers (and non believers). :) The best part is knowing where I will spend eternity.

No discipler, I dont accpet volumes of history as absolutes trues, just as versions of some events that possible happen, and then of course I do belive in the obvious and in my own perceptions. And there is two absolute true's for me, I am alive and I will die on day, the rest is RELATIVE, and bu the way that is what the new Pope wants to fight, Relativism :D
- Kuz0
discipler, you clearly have NO understanding of other world religions.
There is NO grave for Buddha, Mohammed, or Zoroaster - and Islam, for starters is pourely about the submission to God (not Mohammed). Mohammed himself taught that God alone is to be worshipped, and that his followers should be wary of exalting him. Pfft, ignorant people like you can go around chatting shit as though you know something noone else does. And maybe you should look into Buddhism too. But whatever, somethings you're just too ignorant to know so can spout your half baked ideas.

then it's not free then is it discipler? It's like submitting your soul/psyche
that is not easy to do my friend.
