i truly don't know where i stand on this "issue" - i really feel for all of the family.
to answer previous comments, it sounds cruel that she was allowed to starve to death but the hospice did provide her with medications, pain killers, etc. to make her very comfortable. not as bad as you might be thinking.

The parents legal fees were paid for by a pro life foundation in napa, CA.
just an FYI.

anyone see south park last night?
One part that stuck out was when the protestors were saying "who are we to play god" and then kyle or someone said "you played god when you put the tube in her stomach". While I know it is a cartoon and a comedy, it was a valid point.

yup;those pro life guys are hypocrits.
bet they are for the deathpenalty

also 15 years of bed sores, catheters, IV pricks, etc would be far more painful that stopping the feeding.
just let me go at that point, IMO

----------why is that an issue?

ummm
" just an FYI."

That was in response to a previous thread about the costs of this issue, not that this is a debate about money. I do think it hints at the political forces at work here. Don't underestimate the underying goals of certiain politicians to further their own causes with issues like this.
that said, living in a hospital for 15 + years in any state woould be hell, IMO. Just let me go.

especially the 'state' of florida, kld :)

rest in peace

It sickens me that this even got to the level of media hype and political discourse.
I worked as a paramedic for three years and the last place I ever want to be is in a hospice or long term care facility for any amount of time, conscious or other.

abizzyman. i was just trying to best answer a question that was asked about money.
i of all people wouldn't break a persons life down to money.

It amazes me how many issues this case touched upon that the religious right was all up in arms about. Sanctity of Marriage, stem cell research, right to die, cost of care, etc...
Unfourtunatly I feel that most of them don't realize that this kind of case is the reason why all of the above is so important.
I hope she is in a better place and I hope her family can move on...

anyone see the new south park?

the silverlining of this whole sad event is that it has inspired me to write a living will that will spell out my wishes and leave no question that I would never want my 'life' to play out like terri's. I recommend that all of you do the same.

seriously...i dont see the point of living as a veg...youre basically dead anyways

its amazing the religious fanatics including her parents were never able to produce a single scientific piece of evidence to disprove that she was in a consistent vegetative state incapable of being conscious. then again, the purpose of religion is to divorce oneself from reality.
and the reason that money is a factor is that the health insurance industry has a great deal to benefit from by a future where the government can force people to stay alive indefinitely.
