Drawing skills will never be rendered pointless.
As BNoir keenly noted, it's important to be able to effectively illustrate the visuals going on in your head. No one else can get in there, you have to bring it out.

like i have said entrepreneurialship and design talent is different.
you are using entrepreneurialship to make money using design as a vehicle

"My point is simply: to automatically assume that drawing == analog is a very limited position.
More importantly, to reduce the question of design and/or the capabilites of a designer down to the relationship between a designer and one of his/her tools (drawing) just doesn't make sense.
And no, I'm not suggesting that this was your position Dan. "

It's a reasonable topic and DOES warrant it's own thread.
I think the questions your asking and the points your highlighting are valid.

To highlight the discussion we were having above:
"Natural ability without education has more often raised a man to glory and virtue than education without natural ability."

I used to be able to, recently started life drawing classes in work which are great, really enjoyed the last one which was taught by an animator and was alll about capturing the shape and line very quickly. she said that we should nail the shape of the figure in 5 secs which was a bit tough but lovely to do. anatomy next week.

If all electricity fades and computers die one day, a lot of good designers will be out of jobs. We'll put it that way.

i dont mean to down play you
but there is a difference between being entrepreneurial and talent.
just because you sell your self does not mean you have talent.
you maybe talented at entrepreneurial but not at design.
