Microsoft is giving up on us Mac people. There will be no more Internet Explorer developed for the Mac. It figures. It was just about the only good piece of software they ever made.
They say Safari will be a good enough for the Mac. I'm sure it will be, but what does this do for the web development industry for people on Macs. This is hardly good news as far as I'm concerned.

again this thread ..
IE won't be continued on PC either man..
- vellan0
you sure about that zef?
i mean, discontinuing the most-used browser doesn't make much sense for pc...
- CyBrainX0
What? Microsoft spent years winning the browser war from Netscape and now that they have about 95%, they're giving up? That doesn't make any sense. Are they replacing it with something else.
- vellan0
they are only cancelling IE for mac, not for pc

.......
all right lets start againIE will certainly change, i'm not saying it will disappear but probably be integrated in the next window os

at least this means a guaranteed 5-10% browser market share for Safari? (or will Netscape be more popular?)
- CyBrainX0
I think Netscape will die. Safari would have to be obviously inferior for Netscape to win over Mac people again. It's already dead for PC people.
Even in Beta form Safari looks pretty good so far.

for all the whining I hear from mac users about how "evil" microsoft is, why should you give a shit about them pulling the browser support?
- CyBrainX0
Plenty of reasons.
We were almost to the point of only testing web development for one browser.
Microsoft is bad or worse than someone else in just about everything, but IE on a Mac is a great piece of software.
In some cases, everyone using the same thing is a good thing.
and Mirosoft IS evil (not quotes) for being so arrogant in their inferiority that the push standards and proprietary crap on everyone because they can so we can have wonderful software like PowerPoint and Word. They monopolize the market and make claims like the browser is part of the operating system. It's not "whining" to have a grudge against something that sucks.

"We were almost to the point of only testing web development for one browser. "
Well thank god this happened then! Good for the internet.

again again again....
PC users will suffer and so will development if they IE changes standards (they love to make up their own). When it comes as part of the OS it means only people who update their OS for 199.oo bucks will have the latest and greatest browser.
Shit I know people still using windows 95 and especially 98- this seems more of a problem and headache for window users than it does for mac users... Safari is free and open source and a teriffic browser still in BETA form... give it a few years and Safari will be rockin.

i agree on that..
yes,

if apple weren't so rabidly defensive of their hardware, perhaps they wouldn't be limited to a niche market
for all the mac vs. pc bullshit I see, mac users need to realize that their investment is limited to one hardware manufacturer, and a handful of software developers. PC users may be dominated by the evil microsoft empire in the Operating System wars, but microsoft doesn't manufacture computers, and doesn't depend on hardware sales to stay afloat. apple depends on both.
as developers of internet content, to choose the minority system as a platform is to risk limiting your audience as well.
That day has come. boo hoo

"as developers of internet content, to choose the minority system as a platform is to risk limiting your audience as well."
what is this meant to mean?

ribit... re-read the first post and draw your own conclusions
- ribit0
I conclude your post doesnt make sense. :)

i am a Mac user, and I do think Microsoft makes some really great and useful products.
Both Microsoft and Apple are evil in their own corporate struggle for power..
having said that I think Safari is the most promising browser for Apple thusfar, and IE would be so for Windows.. you do not need to ask why.
OS and browser integration is a good thing, as long as standards are there so webdesigners don't need to be frustrated as much..Both Apple and Microsoft need to realize they will have to make sure their browsers comply to the rules set by the W3C.
Sad thing is that the corporate war for financial power still doesn't allow compliance to standards..
and i must say Microsoft is somewhat more 'evil' for that matter.
