Anybody else have their Ti Book flaking out like its got a real bad sunburn?
This is realy depressing me. I love my technology to be as clean as possible. ESPECIALLY my macs! But to watch as my PowerBook looses its paint job (at only 4 months of age) hurts.

did you try Head and Shoulders?

My powerbook looks like it's been left bloody and ravaged by a pack of wolverines. It might be time to apply stickers.

just apply some lotion and some good old fashion lovin'!
kidding dude!

Isn't buying Apple products all about paying a premium (translation : getting f#cked on the price and paying through the nose for slower proprietary hardware) for innovative design and elegance ?
That's what Apple fanatics keep telling each other (and anyone else who comes within range), at any rate.
Then, oddly enough, I see and hear people talking about how all of the paint is chipping off of their powerbook (paint? paint on plastic casing? who thought that that would be at all durable?). And they tell me that, unless they put a rag over their keyboard when they close their powerbook (or pay for a spiffier designer rag from a 3rd party company that sells a lot of crap designed to help Apple customers cope with all of the design flaws in Apple products), their keyboard will mess up their display. And on and on it goes with every Apple product. I still recall the G4 cubes - oh how my Apple-loving friends cried when the plastic began to show small cracks.
For as long as I've been able to remember, buying Apple stuff has always seemed about as slick a move as beating one's self in the head with a toilet plunger.
For the love of God, remember what you're going through now when the tiem comes to buy/build a new system.

whatever. i love the mac os, i dont care if it came in a cardboard box. i have a tibook and mine looks like shit, and i will happily buy another.

After all is said and done, this may be less expensive than buying different shades of nailpolish/hobby+model paint and mixing your own coverup :
- swollenelbow0
hahah i agree with mono.
i never had to buy a paint set to cover up my sony vaio's paint job. i thought titanium was like unbreakable.

yeah good answer mono. I'm a MAC addict but seriously, those guys need to spend more in the research adn development area. I just got a TIG4 (used) for like 800 but now I'm tripping cuz I noticed the screen is fucked up a lil. geez.
Incidentally, your fear of the government is rightious, but understand that big business controls the governemnt. It is these huge coprorations that will be harvesting all that info that the governemnt collects.

"Your TiBook has a design flaw which causes the paint to chip and scratch very easily."
Those things are so expensive too. What a stupid rip-off!
Refunds for eveyone!

Not to be a dick, but maybe you should treat your Powerbook a little nicer.
I've seen tons, and tons of Ti's
Some are a couple years old and they look fine. No paint chips or flaking. So there are three possible problems:
#1 you're abusing your laptop - so you should expect it. Get a case.
#2 You've got strange air or climate issues where you live
#3 you got a bum paint job. Call Apple.
Wait, why are you even posting here?
4 months old?
It's under full warranty by Apple and should be repaired at no cost to you.

paint and plastic ?
why not in stanless steal ?

The cube didnt have cracks that was just stupid people who didnt realise they were mold lines or something that need to be there so they can make the damn thing. And I've never seen a Ti with chipped paint and I've had mine about 6 months and its still flawless

Sorry to burst your bubble df1... but many cubes did indeed show very fine fractures in the casing.
Check the closeup photo in this article filed at the time if you would like to refresh your memory :

Yes, Apple attempted to flim flam their way out of the situation and explain away the crack/*wink*mold line*wink*/fracture as an artifact of the manufacturing process, but people who threw down about $2k for what was even at the time an underowered system based primarily on the coolness factor were quite understandably going to flip out when they see cracks appearing here and there (around rivets, drives, etc.) on the expensive thing's plastic casing.

mono right... and all the Compaq and Dell machines are flawless. Is it better to pay 2500.00 and have paint chip or 700.00 for a machine that right out the box looks, feels, smells, and operates like a tonka toy..... and you end up buying a new one ever year anyway.
I'll go with the paint chips.

mac sucks.
the end.

again, whatever. as far as 'i thought titanium was supposed to be stainless' or whatever the quote was, we NEVER said that the actual titanium was chpping. the laptop casing consists of about 95%, there is the outside areas the hold the titanuim casing in place which is not made out of it. this is the are in question. my tibook looks bad, but there is no scratches on the actual titanium. maybe you should visit a apple store and check it out for yourself. oh wait, you might actually want one by the time you leave...
- pocho0
where most people have the problem is NOT on the titanium part...the Ti part is pretty bulletproof. Where the problem comes in is below the wrist rests...it is actually carbon fibre painted with metallic like paint. My Homies is real bad...I beat mine to hell and just have a couple tiny chips where my PC card slot is. I think removing the paint from the carbon fibre should be easy...right?
Anyone willing to try it out?
