:: Interactive Print Media ::

Hey whats up everyone,

I haven't posted anything in a long while since I left NYC for graduate school... I know this stuff is not super crazy advanced as far as what 3D is doing these days etc... But as far as traditional and contemporary printmaking goes, this was a really fun project that I collaborated on and wanted to share!

Marchelo Vera
Remnants: Within an Age of Digitalism

21st Century civilization allows a glimpse into the progressive art paradigm that encompasses our constantly transforming technological advancements.

My work is a reaction to my life experiences and reflects my interests in the synthesis of media, history, and technology. I am interested in the global network of our modern times and the interrelated possibilities within it. I produce artwork that utilizes generative elements and formulas found in nature, while being inspired by universal symbolism, conditions of the ruin, and ideas stemming from the realm of unconscious thought.

My current work explores a world of illusion, identity, and an evolving reality within an age of Digitalism. My aim is to place the viewer within a suspended space and time. Through the use of hand drawn and computer generative elements, I can create infinite possibilities. I choose to leave out reference of the figure in order to better connect my Synthesis process to the viewer as a constantly shifting and expanding environment.

The interactive portion of the work is a collaborative effort in using innovative technology that I believe will one day connect the realms of augmented reality and virtual spaces with our everyday surroundings. Being inspired by composers like John Cage, Steve Reich, and Karlheinz Stockhausen I have worked back and forth between the interpretation of sound and image.

The sound element of this work is composed through the direct use of each final Intaglio print. Using computer software as an aid, the sound is created by reading time from left to right, while converting the visual marks of each unique print into an audible frequency.

:: Metal Interior Doors Search ::

What's up everyone... I was wondering if anyone has first hand experience or perhaps knows of helpful websites besides Lowes an Home Depot. I'm looking for Metal "Interior Doors," the ones that are used for bedrooms entrances etc. I'm basically working on my house's interior. Thanks in advance! (I'm currently in PR so something mass would be ideal, but I wouldn't mind special ordering.)

I just saw "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," not bad. What do you people have on your bucket lists or wish you would/could have done? Then go do it.

What's up everyone... I was just wondering if anyone knew of any Design Studios, Print related shops, clubs, or sweet restauraunts that I could check out anywhere in Puerto Rico. I just moved here to get away from the crazy cold weather in Boston. How are you guys holding up in NYC? Anyways, it's pretty sweet here so far!

:: 80's toys ::

OK so I'm trying to remember a specific "TOY"
It was basically a hard polymer/rubber inflated ball at the center and it had a plastic disk around it... You put both your feet on top of the disc, snug around the center and you can bounce up and down? I think it was around the same time that they had the skipping jump rope that counted off the amount of times that you could do one legged jumps. Thanks in advance, I wish I could be more clear than this, kind of sounds abstract!

:: Publishing ::

Publishing: As consumers cut back, advertisers follow, and that means tough times for print publications, including newspapers and magazines, experts say.

According to Bureau of Labor Statistics data, employment in the publishing industry has been contracting since the beginning of last year.

But the "grand decline" of jobs in the media industry, which also includes broadcast and digital media, began with the dot-com bust in 2001, noted Heidi Shierholz an economist at the Economic Policy Institute, a research group based in Washington. Now a loss of jobs in traditional publishing is being exacerbated, in part, by the move away from print toward digital media.

"Every time you have a recession it pushes companies that have been holding on by their fingernails out of business," Challenger said. "It clears away an old generation of companies and I think we'll see that with print."

What do you guys think about this?

:: Philadelphia Design/Relocation ::

Whats up QBN... So I'm Seriously considering relocating, I love NYC but the cost of living/rent here is crazy for artists/designers. (I want to eventually own a house.) I heard mixed stories about the design in Philly, that is sucks and that there is little creative work, but a lot of potential community for art. Ex: Space 1026 Any insight or design studio recommendations would greatly be appreciated. What areas are known to hold down creative types, fashion, small studios? I haven't been to Philly since I was 15... they were bulldozing down everything and fixing up the city, I remember heat waves, my father grew up there, but he doesn't know much about creativity. Links/advice would be very helpful and appreciated, Thanks in advance!

:: NYC Design Jobs ::

Looking for advice from others, is it really that bad out there for the nyc design economy? I've been looking, perhaps In the beginning I had too high of expectations, but its been four months now. I've yet to find anything with real career potential. I haven't used any job placement agencies, could someone suggest me a few that I could look up? Thanks. I've been freelancing for two years by word of mouth and recommendation, July came and ouch! Any other similar situations out there?

:: Lost Wedding Ring ::

There's this guy chicken scratching the stone ground at Union Square. Crawling under my feet and around me, I thought he was a junkie or something, because they like to play with shiny objects. But I don't move bc whatever. It turns out this guy lost his wedding ring and is searching in the dark for it everywhere! Says his wife is going to kill him. For future reference, what have you done/would do in this situation? This guy is looking like he's fucked.

It just consciously hit me that when you type with the iPhone, of sounds like an old type writer. I wonder if they didn't think to come up with a more contemporary soothing sound? A little more futuristic, yet simple. Oh and Ambient laser color waves that appear in 3d as I hit the keys.

/marchelovera I recently posted some of my portfolio online. If you type in the thread heading and my extension, it'll come up. IDK why QBN won't allow me to post the link..

Currently still searching for NYC graphic design work in ad/print/publishing... Constructive suggestions welcome.

P.S. Is this site seriously banned from being posted?
