Adrenalin adventure ideas Jun 26, 08, 9:56 a.m.
So my bro is turning 40 soon and I want to plan something kick butt to do. My problem is that it can't be too expensive, require lots of travel or upfront training (due to time restraints) and it's gotta involve the risk of serious injury or death :)
Ideas I've already shot down...
1. skydiving - been there, done that.
2. racing school - too expensive
3. ride in a fighter jet - too expensive
4. bungee, zipline, etc. - after skydiving, these seem too tame.
5. zorbing - can't find places close and seems kinda boring.
Anyone got any ideas?
Falling asleep at your desk Jun 9, 08, 2:04 p.m.
You know you do it.
I just did, until I fell off a big rock in my dream and twitched myself awake, much to the delight of a co-worker.
What do you do on those says when you can't manage to keep the eyes open? I'm about caffeinated out, so that's no good.
Confucious say... May 31, 08, 11:17 p.m.
..man who got to bed with itchy butt, wake up with stinky finger.
Blu-ray Players May 22, 08, 5:17 a.m.
Been looking at various reviews on the web, but curious if anyone out there has any suggestions on players?
Should I wait until the profile 2 players are out? Should I go with a standalone, or a PS3? What features do you think are critical?
Sorry for the barrage of questions and thanks :)
Greasemonkey last post script May 15, 08, 1:36 p.m.
Wrote this for myself, 'cause I'm lazy, but figured I'd share since I ended up using it quite often. The script adds a "Last Post" button to the top pagination area when there is more than one page in a thread. Clicking the button will take you to the last page and auto scroll to the last post. The auto scroll is a bit dodgy sometimes.
Boondock Saints / Overnight Apr 26, 08, 10:30 p.m.
If you haven't seen the movie Boondock Saints, it's worth checking out.
I just got done watching the documentary "Overnight" about the writer and director of the movie.
Taken from a user submitted plot summary at imdb:
"A documentary about the rise and fall of filmmaker Troy Duffy. An aspiring writer-director who got the dream of a lifetime when he sold a script to Miramax as his first feature to direct. But beneath the seemingly happy deal that made Duffy the man of the hour, was an arrogant egomaniac whose ambitions alienated friends, and burned bridges in the film industry. Overnight is a movie about how one director ultimately ruins a promising career that could have been from an overnight success."
What an complete ass. I almost feel sorry for the guy. Great movie, total shithead.
Zen Bondage Apr 11, 08, 5:54 a.m.

"The concept of Zen Bondage is simplistic: Wrap rope around a block of wood. The implementation, though, is damn near flawless. I would be hard-pressed to find something to improve."

Hope this isn't a repost.

speaking a fake language Mar 19, 08, 11:05 a.m.
Someone earlier was requesting audio samples of someone speaking in a gibberish language and it got me thinking... What does your native language sound like when spoken in gibberish?
I've heard people try to mimic Chinese, Spanish, Italian, etc.., but never English. I've always wondered what it would sound like if someone spoke gibberish English (especially if English was their second language).
I'm in no way trying to offend anyone or poke fun at any language in particular, just curious and kinda fascinated.
Here's an English speaker, speaking fake Chinese, Spanish, Italian, etc...
And some response videos speaking fake English:
Steve Austin... Apr 17, 07, 11:27 a.m.
...astronaut. A man barely alive. Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic man. Steve Austin will be that man. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster.
Q - designer, developer or both? Mar 13, 07, 4:07 a.m.
It seems to me that most companies out there are looking for either a designer or a developer, but not both. What hope is there for someone that is stuck in the middle with skills on both sides of the fence?
Over the years I've drifted more and more away from design, but would not consider myself one or the other these days. My strengths I guess are in that I know both worlds, but not necessarily top-shelf one way or the other. (I would consider myself more of a front end developer than backend) I actually really enjoy my current position being able to design and then code all of the interfaces for the applications my company develops. I love it. I just don't see that being a vary realistic position in the market (?)
Just curious what other people experience out in the market. If anyone else out there is in the same boat, can relate, or can offer any insight into what is out there and what people are looking for. It's been a long time since I've been out in the job market.
Typical Newstoday smartass remarks are welcome, but I'm seriously hoping someone can offer some insight here. The company I work for is heading into the toilet and I need to start looking from something else. Kinda freaked out about the whole thing to be honest.
Thanks guys.
Looking for a link Dec 28, 06, 4:23 p.m.
Can't remember the name of the song/artist or who did the video and it's driving me nuts.
The video had a bunch of guys popping and locking (or whatever..). The faces were superimposed onto the dancer. There's a cop driving around and he goes to a gas station (in one part).
Anyone know what video I'm talking about? Or did I just mumble nonsense?
Thanks.
javascript events Dec 7, 06, 12:52 p.m.
anyone know how (or if it's even possible) to get a list of all the objects that are listening to single objects events?
for example, if I assign multiple callback functions to the window.resize event and want to get a list of all the functions that are getting called, is that a property i can access?
much thx.

help finding movie Oct 26, 06, 7:30 a.m.
I saw some nice motion piece some time ago that I'm trying to find again.
Can't tell you much... It started out with sorta sketchy lines drawing wireframed cubes. Music was kinda IDM / Glitch. Eventaully got pretty dramatic, but it was mostly abstract.
Sorry for being so vague.
cheers.

c++ question Apr 22, 06, 5:31 a.m.
trying to port some c++ functions to actionscript and i don't know the first thing about c++.
i'm confused by the following statement:
fabs(logi - (long) logi);
i know it's calculating the absolute value (as a float) of the expression logi - (long) logi, but i don't understand what the logi - (long) logi is.
any one have any ideas on wtf this is doing?
much thanks.
usability question Mar 8, 06, 8:10 a.m.
Could use some opinions on a usability issue...
I've got a web app that is sensitive (beyond my control) to gratuitous clicking (e.g. multiple nav clicks before page is loaded). In some cases, it can cause the app to blowup.
Page loads can be slow, not due to content size, but calculations performed server side. It is tempting as a user to click a button again when the response is slow for a given section.
Given the exisiting framework of the application, the only way I can figure out to avoid this is to hide all the navigation and display a processing type message to the user until the next page loads.
Would this nav hiding bother, confuse, annoy you as a user of an application?
Thanks in advance...
cmyk blacks Feb 21, 06, 7:40 a.m.
is it better to use a 100% K black or build one (100% K 30% C)?
It would be for copy and small area artwork printed on 130# smooth white cover.
It's been years since I've sent something to the printers and I'm paranoid I'm gonna fuck the job up...
