happenings in LA

I have friends visiting LA for the next 4 days, was just wondering if anyone from the area can suggest any places to visit in particular that aren't the normal tourist spots.
thanks

5th September

If rumours are correct then shouldn't we be hearing a big wooosh bang and a lot of jumping around from Mr. Jobs today in his black polo-neck, pale denims and "sneakers" / trainers?

it still needs the odd tweak, but its almost there.

(it needs imagery i know but i need chance to take photos for client for that to happen)
also, right-hand column is for small banners that will promote the business's services- these are on their way.

thanks for your time

QBN Sticker Piggy Bank

just voicing this to see how it flies...
plenty of us here want stickers, they are impossible to get paws on so- if those nice ppl that run this place give me a logo i'll happily have them made and distribute them.
only problem is it'll cost- hence starting a 'fund' for the making of stickers.

is anyone in?

Lewis Hamilton

What do people think of him?
Did anyone see him drive at Silverstone last week? -impressive to say the least.

Site Crit for a Sunday Morning

please can all the kind souls of qbn crit this:

its my current personal project, i'm trying to create a travel journal application that's based around google maps.

standard front page:
http://www.retrex.com/mapnomad

sample journal:
http://www.retrex.com/mapnomad/m…

NOTE: it doesn't work in IE7 properly - could be to do with z-indexes in css, not too sure.

its a work in progress and i have some re-arrangements in mind for the user interface (mainly on location browsing)
some feedback on how it all hangs together would be useful.

Thanks

CSS help

Before i start, i have used the filter with no success so i am putting this one out to the knowledge of QBNers...

i am using CSS to style input boxes on an HTML form.
Everything is fine and all code is valid as it stands, but i can't get the flashing position indicator to display in the text box when you click inside it to type something.
So at the moment when you click in the text field nothing happens at all, which doesn't really go down well on the usability front.

Thanks in advance for any help.

logo crit

ok qbn, please be gentle... this is my first proper logo, its for a travel site that is just a personal project in its early stages at the moment.
So if you would, i'd love some comments on the logo and the name.
Thanks

good things small packages

I'm looking for some advice on compact cameras, i've been a DSLR (nikon) user for a couple of years and have become heavily into photography from just being quite interested. I'd say i'm a very enthusiastic amateur.
i'm looking for a compact that i can carry around all the time, so it has to be light and well built. I was wondering whether anyone here has experience using any compacts that really stood out in terms of image quality.
i know the sigma DP1 is out now, but its pricey. at the other end of the scale the ricoh R series are decent with good zoom ranges.
i fear that any compact i use frequently will not be as enjoyable to use as an SLR, so im still weighing up the idea of carrying around a compact against getting a good case to hold just my D80 with small zoom to make it easier to carry that around - cheaper too.

any suggestions and advice are appreciated

cheers
sam

Betas

Ok does anyone have any interesting links to share? Some cool concepts for sites...

Note: Please no social networking, blogging or video hosting sites. We really don't need any more of them, so keep them locked up.
