Can someone please help me find the right wordings in English?
I am trying to describe a feeling. It's about the desire to feel alive. A feeling that people have when they want to break a routine and escape everyday, when you feel something needs to happen to feel yourself.
Can I say:
a longing for vitality
or
a yearning for aliveness
or something else?
I am not a native speaker and don't want it to sound as if I describe an old man who hopes to be able to climb some stairs and does not know how to do it, because all muscles hurt.
Thank you in advance!

A craving for vitality.

ChatGPT was very helpful, I believe:
All three words - "longing," "yearning," and "craving" - convey a sense of a strong and earnest desire, but they carry slightly different shades of meaning:
"Longing": This implies a deep, often melancholic desire for something that might be out of reach or distant. It suggests a heartfelt yearning and can carry a sense of nostalgia.
"Yearning": Similar to "longing," "yearning" also expresses a strong desire, but it might have a slightly more intense and active connotation. It suggests an eager and intense longing.
"Craving": This word emphasizes a strong and urgent desire. It often has a more physical and immediate connotation, as if something is needed to satisfy a hunger.
For your context of wanting to break out of routines and feel alive, "yearning" or "craving" might fit better, as they carry a sense of urgency and a strong desire to escape the mundane. As for "aliveness" vs. "vitality," both words convey a similar concept of being full of energy and vigor. "Vitality" might capture the idea slightly better, as it explicitly conveys a state of being lively and energetic.
- the thing is context is everything. is this person restricted in some way that they're unable to achieve their goals? a 'raving for vitality' has that feel:hans_glib
- "i'd love to have energy but i can't becuase of x".
whereas if they just want to dig themselves out of a rut you would probably express that differentlyhans_glib - **lol at 'raving..." - craving obvs***hans_glib
- if it's they are feeling stifled and need to get out and express themselves, you might say something about pent up energy that needs to express itself etchans_glib

@Hans
Context is: Daily routine, life is ok, but you are craving for the feeling of being alive. Let's say you want to go bungee jumping, because you feel the desire of adrenaline rushing through your body. This is the kind of feeling I would like to describe.
I now just used "... where sensuality and a craving for vitality unite."
I am not telling the first part of the sentence, because it is giving away the title of my next book and it has to be kept secret.
- Sounds good to me.
Please name your book "Bolz Deep" this time.palimpsest - "...sensuality and a need* for excitementº unite"

*desire
ºadventure
*hans_glib - once again, i am not a copywriter, as you can tellhans_glib
- "desire for adventure" seems to sit well with "sensuality", tho might suggest a bit of bdsm action...hans_glib

ChatGPT suggested this (copy pasting your post):
Both of your suggestions capture the essence of the feeling you're describing quite well. They evoke the sense of craving a more vibrant and meaningful experience of life.
However, if you're open to more options, here are a few other suggestions:
Craving for Vibrancy
Thirst for Exuberance
Hunger for Vitality
Aching for Aliveness
Pining for Liveliness
Coveting a Thriving Existence
Longing for a Renewed Spirit
Desiring a Burst of Energy
Yearning for a Dynamic PresenceFeel free to choose the one that resonates most with the nuance you're trying to convey.

Depends on context, the essence is feeling trapped? But by what? age, marriage, job, finances?
A desire to break free, feeling trapped by routine, "there must be something better than this".

Thank you guys for your help!
