ApeCoin Crashes to All-Time Low as Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT Prices Sink
The Ethereum token linked to Yuga Labs' Bored Ape Yacht Club collection has now fallen nearly 93% from its peak price. The Ethereum-based ApeCoin made its sizzling debut in March 2022, and not long after it launched, the simian-centered token surged to an all-time high of $26.70 in April. At that time, it reached a market cap of close to $7.6 billion dollars. ApeCoin is now down nearly 93% from that peak, as of this writing.
Bored Ape NFTs hit a peak minimum price of $429,000 or 152 ETH that same month, bolstered by celebrity owners who bore Bored Apes as digital status symbols and visions of Yuga Labs’ ambitious Otherside metaverse game. Since then, Bored Ape prices have fallen as low as about $52,000 worth of ETH, on July 2.

Apparently my ex-business partner / ex-friend cashed out his bitcoin at the top, thought he was a financial genius, then spent all or most of that money on NFTs... again, at the top.
Because of the way he did the (or 'a') bitcoin conversion he's on the hook for the tax in the capital gain, but then he's not got any of that money as NFTs are obviously fucking shite and have no value, but can't count towards a loss to offset the tax due. I'm probably getting the detail wrong here, as this was all relayed to me via a mutual friend who knows a lot more about this sort of thing than I (and my ex-friend) do.
I wasn't so blunt as to enquire how much he's fucked for, but reading between the lines I'm estimating that he owes over a hundred grand in tax on an investment that doesn't exist any more.

Your NFTs Are Actually — Finally — Totally Worthless
New report from industry researchers finds that 95 percent of the once-hyped crypto assets have hit rock-bottom valuationA TEAM OF researchers have crunched the numbers to explain why you don’t see people hawking ugly cartoon apes on the internet as much anymore: NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, once vaunted as a revolution in crypto and digital art, are largely worthless.
“Dead NFTs: The Evolving Landscape of the NFT Market” is a new report from dappGambl, a community of experts in finance and blockchain technology. Upon analysis of 73,257 NFT collections, the authors found that 69,795 have a market cap of zero Ether (ETH), the second most-popular cryptocurrency behind Bitcoin. In practical terms, that means 95 percent of NFTs wouldn’t fetch a penny today — a spectacular crash for assets that reached a trading volume of $17 billion amid a frenzied bull market in 2021. The study estimates that some 23 million investors own these tokens of no practical use or value.

Remember Bored Apes? They're Almost Worthless Now
Bored Ape Yacht Club Owners Restructuring Emblematic Of NFT Shakeup; Billions Lost In Value
Let’s pretend you wanted to play the Bored Ape Yacht Club game or be part of their community. You like the drawings. You went to their restaurant in Long Beach, California, during Covid. You’re a fan. You go here to get started. But to join the club, you need to buy an ape. The initial collection sold out, so now you are buying from speculators. To buy one, you need to go to Open Sea – the world’s leading NFTNFT 0.0% marketplace — and start shopping. I see one I like. It’s this sailor dude looking like he’s about to say “Forbes”.
