Something similar happened with my old modem (linksys) a couple years back. One evening it started acting weird and had a series of fallouts. I then tried to install firmware update with no luck. In my searching on interwebs for answers I found out my modem had been compromised and used in a massive bot attack. My philips hue system had been hacked as well, which resulted in lights turning on and off randomly that same evening. My further atempts of factory reset and FireWare failed on the hue as well.
They boxes got the hammer and ended in the electro trash.- hacked? weirdmonospaced
- None of my personal data was compromised - I think they went for the bandwidth for some botnet business.islandbridge
- Not sure how they got access - if it was through my philips hue, hp printer or router, which I actually think was Cisco...islandbridge
- The article I read the day after the attack, 2-4 years ago had both my router and the HUE system on the list of...islandbridge

My guess is your ISP, especially if you seem to maintain a strong WiFi signal while this is happening.

Mine (a Fritz!Box 7560 AZ) has been doing the same for the last few days. I attributed it to the heat.
Also, I feel like a boil-in-a-bag ready meal, right now.

I had a similar problem. I was told to replace the modem (for free through my ISP). When I took it in, they told me that I would never get the speeds I was paying for because they gave me the wrong modem.
Installed the new modem and my speeds went way up, but I kept dropping the signal. I read that router should get replaced about every 3 to 4 years. I am on my 3rd set of new routers and they seem to be ok. We have a pretty big house and had a hard time with dead spots, so I tried mesh with no luck. I ended up with 2 routers, one upstairs and one downstairs and connected the upstairs with a cable, so now we have coverage throughout the house as well as across the street.
So i suggest calling your ISP about a new modem and go from there.

This has been going on for a while too, maybe a month.

It can be IP conflict on your network.
If you have Netgear router download netgenie and check connected devices.
Other routers should have other similar tools.

How old is your router or modem?
When ISPs speed up their connections often times the equipment doesn't manage the throughput well.
The other thing that it could be, which I doubt, would be WiFi radio interference on the 2.4 gig band. If you have a dual band router that broadcasts to 5, switch to everything to that except your phone.
