My best friend lives in Calgary.. been out there several times to visit but mostly in the winter time, to snowboard the interior.
Last time I was there we were hanging out in Inglewood, bit more of a low key neighbourhood ...but theres a bunch of breweries/bars within walking distance of each other.
- I'm looking for nature oriented stuff, forest, outdoors, wildlifeBennn
- You'll want to drive out to Canmore and Banff then... Calgary is a city just like any other. Not much of a nature destination.Al_dizzle
- ...in the summer time though lots of people float bow river.. which cuts through the city.Al_dizzle
- My plane would land in Calgary and rent a car from thereBennn
- In regards to the nature destination aspect, Calgary does have a 14 km2 provincial park inside our city boundaries. But can't compete with the mountains :)ETM

Al already mentioned the bow, beautiful paddling (if you’re good in a canoe)

My buddy says these are all in the city:
"Nose hill, Glenmore Reservoir, Edworthy park (Douglas fir trail)."
But honestly man... drive out to the mountains, it's worth it. All those parks in the city pale in comparison to the hikes and nature you'll see out in Canmore and Banff.
- yes totally, thats what we want to do :)
Just wanted some tips and hints and example of possible itinaryBennn

I live in Calgary. Nose hill park is pretty nothing. It's a windy prairie hill. I agree with the Reservoir and Edworthy Park. Also Fish Creek Park for sure.
The Calgary Zoo is world class. Heritage Park is pretty cool, too. Downtown we have the Glenbow Museum, our new Central Library that has been the talk of the architecture scene the world over, as well as the Bell Music Centre.
Head west to the mountains. In about 45 minutes you'll hit Canmore, then you can can see Lake Louise and then Banff. All beautiful with majestic scenery.
- Oh and a couple hours drive NE and you can visit the Royal Tyrrell Museum if you are into dinosaurs and natural historyETM

...lots of good little spots for shopping and pints etc (17ave, Inglewood, Kensington, beltline) ...also worth seeing - https://www.archdaily.com/905263…
For mountain experience - def rent a car and head west - Canmore awesome, tons of hikes - Banff is good but it’s a mountain tourist trap (still worth seeing gondola etc.). Lake Louise is stunning ...honestly there’s so many awesome hikes and stuff you’d need months to feel satisfied

ETM,
what would you suggest as a 7 ~ 10 days trip?
I would land in Calgary, rent a car at the airport and start our roadtrip from there. We dont want to visit Calgary at all, we want nature! We want to hike and drive thru the nature and make some stops to see the views. We would like to do day hike only, not long hike. Somewhere this summer.- Hit the Canmore / Banff / Lake Louise trio for sure but if you have time the drive to Radium is awesome and you can do hot springs thereStatic_Line
- Highway to Jasper is killer too - Icefield parkwayStatic_Line

There is soooo much in the mountains, lakes, waterfalls, views galore. Keep in mind, staying in the area can be expensive during tourist season.
Here are some examples of ones in the area, but sometimes the best trips are ones that aren't planned and you afford time just to explore and stop when you see something.

Even though it's east of Calgary a couple hours, and opposite direction of the mountains, I would also consider hiking in the badlands:

Kananaskis area is also good. Closer than Banff.
Definitely go to the mountains. Calgary is the inventor of Chinese food dish. Ginger beef. And also the drink the Caesar.

Your welcome to come visit. I am only 10h north of Calgary and there is really not alot here unless you want to take a tour of a gas plant.
I have been to Jasper and it was amazing. The mountains are definitely the way to go.

As far as cities go, Calgary is pretty typical. Nothing to write home about. But the mountains nearby are incredible. I suggest getting a car and staying in the mountains. Canmore, Banff, lake Louise, erc.

Stayed in Calgary for a week a couple of summers back. There's some cool coffee / food / beer places on 17th Ave, but if you want the mountains, def better to get somewhere up there.
We left the city at 6am and still ended up at the back of a traffic jam on the way in to lake Louise. Gets BUSY.

thanks guys! I'll look into it
