as you may know, i am not a graphic designer. but I do dabble a little bit in it. ...we're organizing a March for Science in my city, and I created this logo for it, based on the original design
NATIONAL DESIGN
MINEA volunteer offered to do our t-shirt design for us, and I accepted because I've never printed anything on t-shirts before, and I figure there's stuff to it that I know nothing about. The volunteer just sent me these (imo) cringeworthy "concept" designs...
Is it normal to send such shitty concepts before starting on an actual thing? (I did send him the fonts for the logo) Or should I tell this guy "Thanks! We'll get back to you if we want to use one of these designs!"

not a big fan of any of them tbh but look how the bottom two may be more interesting when applied in the real world, like on t-shirts, posters, flyers, digital. They are more dynamic.

Arial, huh?
I'm gonna go get a sandwich.

Isn't putting text over a logo like a pretty big no-no? if I wanted writing all over the logo, I would have put it there myself...

- somebody downvoted, but why? who writes on a brand mark!sarahfailin

- you're saying I should center the bear right in the middle and let the star be further to the left? right now they're roughly centered as one object.sarahfailin
- They're not finished designs though, right?detritus
- they're "concepts" for a t-shirt design. my logo w/ the bear is basically finished, though I'm not above tweaking it if you guys show me something i can improvesarahfailin

Printing vector on tee shirts is easy.
- i thought it might be, but I don't know what I don't know, you know?sarahfailin
- will be pricey if lots of colours though (if silkscreen)fadein11

As concept sketches his are ok, if that's the direction they want to go in. If you like, run with it and make them better, if you don't, don't.
- Why is the form of the orbits on yours different? Surely that bit should be the same?detritus
- basically there are two versions going around. i like this one better. if you image search march for science logo, you'll see all the different takes on it.sarahfailin

b-bump. i'm gonna talk to this guy soon. maybe ask him to give me something a little less thrown-together. I don't want to ask him to do a lot of work if i'm not going to use it.
right now, i think a better design (though not creative) is to just have:
March For Science

- yes indeed. people are doing all kinds of things with it. from a branding perspective, it's prob not a good situation for MFS national.sarahfailin
- something like this would look cool on a shirt thoughOP31

No designer would send concepts that weak. There's no concept. 15 more minutes and it could have been designed.

Design aside, such things are a community project and we all may accept that such events do not have high priced logo concepts done by top tier designers. I'd prefer a shitty logo from someone actually involved with his/her heart in the community than some fancy concept from mr. anonymous ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Help where you can, adjust kerning and colors and don't over engineer it. People don't like their hobby projects taken over by professionals.

Hey so, what do you guys think about this for a t-shirt design? I made it myself and there are some tiny problems. For some reason the ends of the letters get deformed when I do "Text Along Path." I'm using GIMP 2, cause I don't have photoshop... so maybe that's why? Any tips or feedback would be appreciated!
- there's more space on the right side than on the left and I can't exactly figure out why.sarahfailin
- how you printing? if low budget and silk screen stick to 1 or 2 colours. this type of things works perfectly fine as 1 colour if done well so save the budget onfadein11
- pointless use of extra colours if you can.fadein11
- your grant/fund suppliers will appreciate it later on. save funds for real shit at the event.fadein11
- thing*fadein11
- yeah, the logo itself is either 3 colors or we could do it in 1. got a pretty good deal silk screen printing for 3 colors, so gonna do that.sarahfailin

- i see, i see. I have to learn more about text along path.sarahfailin

- *no kerning adjusted :D !%sted
- i just discovered that my right electron makes my atom layer off-center! that's why i'm getting more space on the right.sarahfailin
- yeah and please keep in mind that optical centers aren't always the mathematical centersted
- geez i'm a bit low on energy but you got it :Dsted
- sarahfailin2
- imo it feels a bit cluttered and off balance. The MFS and Sacto type could come down in size to even it out a touch.ben_
- Not sure what's up with the keystoned type as you didn't have that in your previous version.ben_
- And I'd reduce the size of the bear and star which would allow you to maybe get it more evenly balanced as well.ben_
- Oh nvm, you did have that keystone issue going on.. fix that fo'sho.ben_
- from my googling, the keystoning isn't easily fixed in GIMP :( but I will try. thanks for the feedback! I will experiment with these things.sarahfailin
- Ah, I didn't realize or pay attention to the fact that you're using Gimp - good luck.ben_
