The price they’re asking seems unreasonably high. From under $750 for the classic 1200s to $4,000 for the 1200GAE edition. Yikes.
- They are gorgeous but imo so are the MK2s - I can say in all honesty even if I won the lottery I would put the money into a mint set of 1210MK2sprophetone
- ...aaaaaand maybe have another set of MK2s gutted for parts and used to design and make a custom set of mini SL-700s!prophetone

I have my original SL1200MK2's from the early 90s and I love them, built like a tank, will last forever and I would recommend to anyone looking at turntables for dj'ing to find the cheapest, dustiest set of og 1200/1210 MK2's they can get their hands on. they can be had nowadays for $250-300 each which is a steal!

I still have my 1210 MK2s that I bought in 1993 with my student loan.
Solid as fuck, they just don't build stuff properly like that anymore - reckon you could chuck them out of a window and they would still work (although Im not prepared to put this to the test).

My one functioning 1210 MkII. (from 89 i believe, bought second hand as a pair in 1997 - current is an amalgamation of parts from both) is on permanent loan to a mates house and it's still going strong (with a bit of idle hum).
But I hear of people buying Technics that are buggered all the time these days - good pairs for £500 do not turn up as often as they used to... Obviously in reality any turntable that gets transported a lot or installed in a club for a couple years will have issues that would stop you using it for general listening, and if you don't have a stack of donor units to keep them running you'll fork out a few hundred to get them running like new... Wouldn't have said it 10 years ago but the current batch of OEM alternatives are so strong I really wouldn't buy another pair new or old. Running ATLP1204s ATM and love them to bits.
- interesting. yep I would never buy ex cub 1210's. asking for trouble.fadein11
- yeah, think about how many have been bought and used by clubs in the years since they stopped making them... much riskier than it used to be!kingsteven
- Got the model wrong there current TTs are AudioTechnica *LP1240 - not 1204.kingsteven
