Hey there. As designers in LA, what is your commute like? I'm trying to pick a good neighborhood to live in. I'm assuming all the design work is on the west side

when I lived there I was in West Covina, worked in San Gabriel
2 hours each way
had another job based in downtown LA testing cell & microwave towers
3 hours each way
and this was about 25 years ago, fuck all that jazz

I walk most days, office is 1.5 miles away. The only times I 'drive to work' is when I work on commercials (camera department), which I do once every few months. I have been lucky.
So the advice is get a job close to home or get a job then move close to the job.

Ensuring you live near work or can work remotely are your only realistic choices. Your only other option is to commute during "low" traffic hours, heading into work at 5:00AM and staying until 8:00PM, and even then, it can still be brutal, depending where you live/work.

crossing the hills between valleys is a more miserable commute. There are only a few veins that go across the hills. Moving east or west on the right side of the valley isn't as bad but can still be a bitch if you are going as far as downtown.

we are in LA right now (wife is here for work) and are staying in the silver lake area. man, i always forget how fucking long it takes to even get 5 or 6 miles. we are relying on uber and lyft at the moment, but it feels like we are in a car longer than we are out of one.

^ I've been looking at east since its relatively cheaper (but not by much) and I'm also looking at jobs. Where are all the design agencies?
- It seems like all the UX work is in Santa Monica or thereaboutscannonball1978

Never assume where the work is. Depending on what you do, you could work downtown, Santa Monica, Hollywood, Beverly Hills.
