We sign up all of our clients for a gmail account as well as social media, and most of them require a phone number/text verification these days.
We've tried most of the free online text and phone services but Google doesn't accept them as legit numbers.
The only way that we can think of to get around it is to buy Burner Phones. Who else has this problem, an what do you do to get around it?
We could have the clients to sign up for the accounts, but it has been a complete pain in the ass in the past to get them to do it correctly and then send us the login info.
thoughts?

Those phone/text verifications are part of 2-factor authentication, which is meant to combine something you know (password), with something you have (smartphone). That's why online text/phone is disallowed. When you go to do a password reset or something else risky, they want to be doubly certain it's you.
Your client should really be in control of that second factor, from a security standpoint, but if you need to be managing things for them, and you don't want the hassel of coordinating with them, just buy a phone for them and let them know they're paying for the number. The key takeaway is that you need the number to remain active while you're using it to authenticate the account. I imagine burner phones get their numbers reassigned regularly, so maybe not a great option.
- ..or just ignore Google's prompts for a couple of years.detritus
- same goes with a SIM, I think you've only got a number if you're paying for a plan.monNom
- I think you can change you number once you have the account. so it's easier to tell the client to go in and change the number.dbloc
- True, but if you're managing it, it might make your job easier to manage that phone as well.monNom
- "it" being the account.monNom
- they only allow 10 accounts per number.dbloc
- we have never had to re-verify an account, ever.dbloc

You don't make the rules, if google needs them to have a phone that can be texted then it's part of the cost of doing business.

Our company has gone through this exact same fucking problem. We went through our personal cell phones, spouse phones, office phones, I even used my parents phone.
I had the idea back when I was doing this to get a box of cheap Tracfones, and when each phone met it's max, donate the phone to a local charity or what not. Instead, the powers that be set up an account with Evoice. What this did was it would give us a couple of numbers that we would map to our office phones. We would input the new number into the verification service, and the office number would get the call. When each number was used up, we'd delete the number, create a new one and map that to the office phone. It was a pain, but it worked in the end. I don't do these setups and more, someone else in the company does, but I think they still use Evoice.

And I think they cycle through and purge the "used up" numbers. I used my cell a couple of weeks ago to set up a new Gmail account for a freelance client and my number worked, after it had been "used up" a month or so before.
Also, text and voice are independent of each other, so you can max out your number on texts, then switch to voice and get more verifications.

I think it's also may be location/IP based. I had tried setting up an account at my office on my laptop with my cell, it didn't work, the number was used up. Went home, and on my home network, my "used up" cell worked fine.

Why can't you use an existing email account?

a few weeks back i verified one of my youtube channels on a landline because i misplaced my cell, it reads you out a 4digit code in robot voice. it might be a new feature because i don't remember seeing that before, if it is a new feature, maybe they did a partial rollout, might be the same with analytics and adsense
