I'm ready to work on music production projects again. I prefer to run Logic on a Macbook Pro.
I have access to a MBP 2015 15" 2.8Ghz through my work. The IT department can login to it remotely and audit my stuff if they ever wanted to. Not that they care if I work on music at night, it just isn't a totally autonomous machine.
Should I use this machine and keep good backups in case I ever get canned? Or spend the $1700 on a similar rig and keep the two worlds separate? What would you do?

used the work rig, put the $1700 aside. When you get canned buy a new one -- put the wear 'n tear in the work mbp
- and Time Machine the work rig.Gnash
- then just restore from TM to new rig when neededGnash
- Will that not bring all the IT administrator user's bloat? Like 100 Gb of antivirus, proprietary programs, other system-deep bullshite-wo
- you can select what get's imported when you do a "restore'Gnash
- you can select folders and settings to add or excludeGnash

Use the work computer but install Little Snitch so you know when you're being watched or you can block their IP after hours:

Do you use a personal iCloud account on the work computer? If you're buying Logic you'll want to have it associated with your personal iCloud, not the company one.
I like to keep a separate computer for music production and my photography. Don't want a work administrator looking through my Lightroom! :)

Do you *need* the laptop format? The i7 based MacMini's are really good deal (for a mac), imo. Especially since you can upgrade the RAM yourself.
