Bowling alley

So I went bowling the other day and was looking at the layout / decor of the place. I was thinking if it would be possible to have a fresh take on a bowling ally. I remember in the 90’s they did like a rock n’ bowl re-branding thing with black lights and loud music but now it seems very dated and tacky. For some people this might seem nostalgic but with the old style tube TV’s showing the scores with crappy 15 year old 3d animations of bowling pins dressed as samurai blinking out the word “split” seems more sad than nostalgic.
I was wondering what the general idea here was about bowling alley design. I could see a clever idea really doing something unique in this space. How would you approach this? Would nostalgia play a roll? How would you keep the space functional? Are there any examples of places doing this right (I have no idea if there are bowling alleys in other parts of the world)? Maybe I just went to a really shitty bowling alley but I am thinking there are more dives out there than classy. Is it possible to even have a trendy or chic bowling alley?
Just thought it was a fun question about design as this is a design forum after all.
