Good stuff. It seems like the kind of article that would take off on Medium, maybe you should consider posting it there.
Also, enjoyed the mention of seapunk and vaporwave lol
- Thanks, also posted on Medium. Feel free to help promote :) https://medium.com/@…LOKi

You've got some great content about how corporations co-opt trends and separate them from their origins, but the first bit is pretty dense and hard to follow, and from the expectations set in the title, I think the actual content about Pantone leaves a bit to be desired. "Propaganda" implies a deliberate motivation to change the story. I think you make the case that it's more of a byproduct of blind corporate greed.
If I could suggest:
"The politics of pantone: how trend-spotting steals subculture's voice."
Then lead in with an introduction spelling out what the article is about before you get into the quotes and thinky stuff.
It's great content, I'm glad I read it. But I'm not sure I would have if I had been less engaged. It could be more approachable with some edits, and thus appeal to a wider audience.
Content-wise, great stuff.

Ideally I'm talking to designers.... and yeah, utopian, that's kinda the point of the essay, but not just designers, but subcultures that are using aesthetics in specific ways.

Pantone does not really forecast and or predict any color trends...they just copy and follow what is popular amongst designers that particular year.
