Need to find a good font manager for my home computer. FontBook is so slow and takes forever to manage. Thinking of buying Suitcase Fusion 6 (the same one I use at work) but I was just reading about a couple cheaper options:
RightFont ($40) http://rightfontapp.com
FontYou ($0) https://cloud.fontyou.com/about/…Has anyone tried either of these? Are they decent or should I stick to one of the big names?

How many fonts do you have loaded/active?
I found that even with Suitcase, if you have too many fonts activated it will cause problems with your operating system.
I am currently running FontBook with about 250 fonts active and have I have zero problems.

Got about 800 active on a new MacBook Pro. I could disable some to speed things up. Just like UI better on some of the other programs, but I guess I can't complain being that FontBook is free.

i have like...10 fonts activated
- I don't think I've ever checked, until now. I have 50K loaded into FontExplorer with 1005 active.Gnash

So in FontBook, will disabling fonts under the "User" mean that apps won't be able to use them? Like doesn't Microsoft programs need those Asian fonts activated?
- For example PS and ID will say the font is missing,...simply activate and reload the particular doc in the app, and you are good to go.utopian
- What about system stuff? Noticed some fonts allow me to deactivate it, some don't...CincodeMayo

And shouldn't Adobe have some sort of font manager included in CC by now?

I have a couple of 'collection' folders in mac osx's FontBook software, with about 10 fonts in each collection. Just stuff I bought from atipo etc....
I love to go into illustrator and instead of big drop down menu of fonts... simply see 'folders' of fonts, so I can quickly try out the fonts I've bought. I tried starring them to see them in 'favourites' but i'd like another 'favourites' selection for another collection...
Is there any way to see fonts via 'collections'/folders, a free manager that allows this?

You don't REALLY need 800 fonts activated, do you? If you are worried about cost/money - just deactivate 600 fonts. It's a good practice to get in, but I only preach that... I have too many fonts activated right now.

Found a solution... May work for you guys too, for creating lists/folders of fonts in Illustrator (Adobe wider suite):
The Libraries panel.
Type of a row of fonts using the fonts you'd want grouped, perhaps from a particular Foundry etc.
Click on one line of text, go to libraries panel, press the +, add the Character Style.
Problem is... it's a bit glitchy in applying the font style.
- well... stores the font size too. not simply the font.shapesalad

I must say, Font Explorer X WAS the shit...
