It's really weird how so many people associate manufacturing jobs and working in a factory with job security and prosperity.
I think it's just because back in the 50s, 60s or whenever the American golden age was there were more jobs like that but those jobs didn't cause the overall economic conditions.
If you look at people who work in those factories in China they are exploited in a similar way the USA exploits illegal immigrants from Mexico. In order to compete with developing countries there would be pressure to lower wages and benefits not raise them.
